Coli won't even give jay credit for coles success. Apparently Cole did it all in spite of ROC nation.

he could do it, look at the game when he did jesus piece that shyt made numbers if rick ross switched his sound and started talking about real thinks like on his track foreclose or hold on he could make waves he got the voice toRick Ross? We all know how he sold.![]()
What has J Cole taught these rappers? That being genuine goes much farther than anycould get you. I'm not even a Cole fan, but I have to respect him. He sold 1 million in an era where that's near impossible. He even went farther than Plantworth, and that's saying something, seeing as how the critics TOLD you to like TPAB, whereas THE PEOPLE just enjoyed Forest Hills. He's got a good fanbase. Outsold Drake's two latest releases as well, wonder if Views will do those kind of numbers
The question is, do you think these other rappers could do the same? Young Thug? If he switched his MO and started just talking about real life and not bullshyt (huge thug fan but let's be honest here). Rick Ross? We all know how he sold.
I just can't help but wonder if the lower-tier, copycat rappers had made some genuine music instead of making "trap" and going triple dust bunny, then maybe they would have sold better/had better fanbases.
Look at Kevin Gates. He makes trap, but he mixes in enough lyricism and honesty to make him a compelling character to the public. People LOVE him and his fanbase is only growing. If he keeps it up he could be Cole-level.
What people don't realize is there is a HUGE market for this, these labels are sleep. People want what they call "real hip hop" even if it isn't really REAL HIP HOP. They want someone they can connect to, and getting a cult level fanbase is the way to survive these days.
That's like 9/10s of his fan base.Drake stans are the worst but Cole stans are on the rise. A few chicks I know who were sluts all through school and don't know shyt about Hip-Hop posting on social media talkin bout "J Cole is so deep. Other just rappers just disrespect women and talk about money."
J Cole says "bytch" as much as anybody out there. And I'm actually a Cole fan but if you are wowed by his "depth", you must be a casual rap fan who really isn't used to high-level lyricism cause Cole is very plain and understandable.
I think he's boxed himself in musicallywhy not? Dude is a rap superstar that out here looking for no cosign or handout and made it his own way. I would want his career over anybody in the game.
i like Kendrick better.![]()

People who talk about positive/negative in art are sesame street ass listeners who like basic, shallow art.
Nah, you're going too far. Black people fukk with Cole heavy. You got to be kidding me.
I went to a J Cole concert last year and there was nothing but cacs and mexicans there with a few black people peppered in. The hood dont even fukk with J.cole only nerds and suburb moms listen to Cole.
Me too, but I like Cole as well. You can get a sense of his lyrical progression from album to album and that's awesome. But you can do the same with Kendrick. Of the three, the only one who seems to be stuck lyrically is Drake and I think that has more to do with his lack of subject matter. How many more times can he rap about having a broken heart or about his money?
What is this progression you speak of? J Cole is the same rapper he was on the Warm up
He even puts old songs on his albums ( Wet Dreamz and Lost Onez)
You have to be the only one with this opinion.
Y'all are sitting here making Cole something he's not. He doesn't need your legend making
Summer 16 sounds nothing like anything from NWTS era or before Drake
