I started hearing Dilla's tracks for the first time in '95-'96.
The sound he had back then was always his best work, to me. Those snares were CRAZY!! But the way he was layering chords at that time, was so advanced. When he started getting away from that, the beats weren't as dope to me. But I also think he wanted to get away from people saying his sh*t was sounding a lot like Tip's.
