Man, I've been playing hockey since I was 3, essentially my whole life. I've played at every level (OHL/NCAA) except the pros. I grew up my whole life playing against guys who are in the NHL right now. Two of my best friends included. If it wasn't for multiple concussions I got when I was 17 and 18, I'd probably be in the NHL myself. So I think I have a bit of an understanding of the dedication it takes to compete at a high level in a sport but thts all it is, a sport. Me playing a game my whole life was nothing compared to the work my mom an dad put in so I could even play the game I loved. They bust their a$$ to make that possible for me and despite all the hard work and dedication I put into playing hockey, it's still nothing compared to the work and sacrifices they made for me. No matter how you slice it, Kobe gets to play a game for a living while making millions of dollars at the same time. It's not comparable.

Who's the best player you played against @Patrick Kane ? Your story sounds more interesting than listening to more Kobe riding . Do you still feel symptoms from the concussions ?

Kobe also worked very hard to get to that position and remain in that position....look at Antoinie Walker and Steve Francis...broke

I didnt ask about your hockey career...:ld:

Sports are games, but there are sacrifices as well, its deeper than that....the average NFL player is not only broke but also regrets playing football 10 years after they retire....these athletes who got it so easy destroy their bodies on an annual basis....and yea someone might not like being a teacher, or being confined in a cubicle, or even selling cars all day but for some its not that much worse than being away from the family constantly, pushing your body's limits daily, having concussions, being addicted to painkillers, etc....:scusthov:

"We're like modern day gladiators," Bell observed. "We sell our soul to a game for money, for fame, for glory. And at some point, you've kind of got to sit there and say, 'Is this still worth what I'm doing?"'

Bell's answer was no.

One week after Seau's suicide, he became the first NFL player to announce his retirement because of fears playing the sport he loves would result in long-term brain damage.

"I'm giving up at this point because I feel like I've reached a point in my career where I've done enough. ... I think the risk outweighs the rewards"

You have dudes retiring from the game due to fear of potential consequences...shyt is deeper than a game
also

The average elite athlete will die by the age of 67. That is considerably lower then the 76 year life expectancy of the average American. Do you want to hear something that is really scary? According to the NFL Players Association, the average life expectancy of an NFL player is 58 years of age.

its deeper than a game, these athletes knock years off their life....thats a pretty fair trade-off if you ask me

Kurt Warner said on the Dan Patrick Show that the idea of his sons playing football “scares me,” and he thinks the risk of injuries is serious enough that his preference would be that his boys not play.
a pro-athlete would rather have his son work a regular ass job then play, thats pretty telling

I'd probably have to say Drew Doughty for the L.A Kings and Bobby Ryan for the Anaheim Ducks. In junior, these guys were completely dominant, very highly skilled guys that dazzled me every time we played.

I don't know how familiar you are with some of the players in the league but there's a ton of great hockey players I grew up playing against over the years but these two always stand out. Doughty was a big kid, lightening face rushing the puck and he could hit like a truck. Doughty was younger than us too but better than everyone on the ice. Ryan would just skate or muscle his way around you and he too was always looking for a big hit.

My first concussion came when I was about 16, I took a hit to the boards and broke my collarbone, at the same time rattled my skull pretty good too and sat the rest of the season. Dizziness, headaches, nauseated, not a good feeling for a 16 year old but when you're a kid, you suck it up and play :ehh: I was a left winger but played some center in tight defensive situations but my game was fast paced, up and down the boards with speed, crashing the net and looking to score. That was my game. I had a big mouth and a lot of the guys didn't like that, especially coaches, so I'd get targeted in games with cheap hits but we did it too, it's a part of hockey.

Took another hit coming across the middle on a breakaway I thought I had :krs: I didn't even see the defesemen and just got smoked. Hit my head against the ice there and that's the hit that made me start having second thoughts about hockey. I remember being in class having a hard time concentrating and feeling this constant pulsing in my head. I was 17 at this time and kept playing but my game changed. I wasn't throwing big hits, crashing the net, dekeing into the slot for shots, I shied away from contact. I didn't wanna get hit :to:

Got cut from my OHL team, played some DIII NCAA hockey but I wasn't going to make the league and I just wanted to go to a better school and get my degree at that point. So I did that. Luckily, I don't suffer from any major concussion symptoms but I do get the occasional headache. My collarbone is the only thing that bothers me at times if anything.

@Patrick Kane sorry to hear bout your career Breh .
Damn those concussions aren't any joke . I always wondered why more players don't get concussions in hockey with the big hits and ice with looks like little helmets . I'm not really a hockey fan don't even really understand the rules like icing and stuff . But I do watch and follow the rangers to a degree since a kid mostly cause I liked how they had the same colors as the giants lol
What do you think of the rangers chances next time they Have a season :merchant:I been following Derek Stepan playing internationally and it doesn't seem like he's doing too good
