He was trying to break up a fight related to his frat brother's ex. The ex had a bunch of unsavory folks(I can assume) who started shyt. There was a fight. He tried to diffuse it and got shot. It absolutely is tragic

No. Most adults would be wary and anxious reading about shooting incidents on different campuses during homecoming season. Especially parents of current students.
On a good day, HBCUs are underfunded, so some of the anxiety comes from people not being sure if their school has the proper resources to prevent/deter such an incident. As well as wondering why anybody would bring negativity and death to such positive gatherings.

As an HBCU alumni I’ll say that shyt can get wild on and off campus so You gotta constantly mitigate risk to your well being. We all know that HBCUs are either in The hoods or in the woods add To that the fact that they honestly aren’t as “exclusive” (yeah I said it) as a university should be, the hood - shooter element is always a threat. When I was in undergrad I saw a townie shoot a breh in the head then aim into a crowd and get his cousin in the stomache. No one should have to live or learn in those conditions.

I don't think people are shytting on HBCU's if they point out shootings at those schools that are similar and all recent. That's not the point.
