Brandun Lee To Face Will Madera On Paul-Rahman Showtime PPV Undercard 8/6

Brandun Lee has an opponent for his first fight since Zachary Ochoa ended his long knockout streak.
BoxingScene.com has learned that the undefeated junior welterweight contender has been contracted to box Will Madera in a 10-round, 143-pound bout on the Jake Paul-Hasim Rahman Jr. undercard August 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The bout between Lee (25-0, 22 KOs), of La Quinta, California, and Albany’s Madera (17-1-3, 10 KOs) will be the second of four fights Showtime will distribute as a pay-per-view event three weeks from Saturday night.
The televised portion of the Paul-Rahman undercard will feature seven-division women’s champion Amanda Serrano. Brooklyn’s Serrano (42-2-1, 30 KOs) and Argentina’s Brenda Carbajal (18-5-1, 9 KOs) will square off in a 10-round, 126-pound championship match for Serrano’s IBO, WBC and WBO featherweight titles.
Long Beach, California’s Ashton Sylve (7-0, 7 KOs), an 18-year-old lightweight prospect who has signed with Paul’s promotional company, will open the pay-per-view portion of the Paul-Rahman undercard against an opponent to be determined.
Lee, 23, knocked out 15 straight opponents before Ochoa took him the 10-round distance April 16 on the Errol Spence jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Judges Josef Mason (99-91) and Tim Cheatham (99-91) scored nine rounds apiece for Lee, who won eight rounds according to judge Chris Migliore (98-92).
Madera, 31, has won back-to-back bouts by technical knockout since Puerto Rico’s Felix Verdejo stopped him in the first round of their July 2020 bout at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. Verdejo (27-2, 17 KOs) dropped Madera once and stopped him with one second remaining in the opening round.
In his most recent action, Madera stopped Jamshidbek Najmitdinov after the fifth round October 16 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Uzbekistan’s Najmitdinov, who entered the ring with a 19-1 record, suffered an arm injury that prohibited him from continuing, but Madera was ahead by the same score, 48-47, on all three cards through five rounds of action.
In the main event August 6, Rahman (12-1, 6 KOs) will move down from the heavyweight division to cruiserweight to battle Paul (5-0, 4 KOs), who will fight a professional boxer for the first time since he began his career in January 2020.
James McKenzie Morrison (20-0-2, 18 KOs), a son of late WBO heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison, beat Rahman by technical knockout in Rahman’s most recent fight.
Rahman, a Baltimore native, was ahead 40-36 on each scorecard when McKenzie Morrison dropped him in the fifth round. McKenzie Morrison stopped him several seconds after Rahman reached his feet and the action resumed.
