Because you have to be 3-years out of high school before getting drafted (and spend time developing in college)...it makes first round picks way more valuable than the NBA. Plus you get 5-years with them on the rookie deal, so you're getting a mostly developed athlete on the cheap. Great value. In the NBA, outside of a generational lottery pick, most guys require a lot more time to develop and there aren't many elite players deep in the draft. 1st round picks aren't worth much in hoops outside the Top 10-12 picks.
