He got a lot of pushback out here in NYC for not being considered authentic in terms of dancehall. That being said Vybz Kartel was really starting to get a stronghold in the NYC dancehall scene so that may explain Sean Paul pushback.

Jamaicans out here in NYC saw Sean as a gateway but Vybz, Tony Matterhorn was what they were playing nonstop.

I still have PTSD for the amount of times “Dutty Wine” was played out here.

OP specified Dancehall and Bob was not dancehall

And globally Sean is bigger then Vybz and Beenie Man. Sean was on songs from major pop artists Beyonce and Sia. Beenie Man did songs with Don Omar and Mya. Sean has 48M monthly listeners on Spotify. Both Beenie Man & Vybz have over 3M. Sean Paul has 3 songs in the billions on Youtube. Beenie Vybz and Elephant Man don't have billion viewed music videos on Youtube.

off topic, Cutty Ranks also has a song in the billions with Dame Tu Cosita. Its over 5 billion views. And it's # 6 in the most viewed music videos of all time on Youtube. Thats crazy to think of how Cutty Ranks of all people could have such a title.
I know, I'm just saying enough people who aren't from the Caribbean think Reggae and dancehall are the same. Just clarifying with op.

Bernie, Vybz and especially Elephant man wouldn't be doing crazy numbers on any streaming services. Their biggest demo is Caribbean UNC's and aunties who still buy CDs and Records.

I didn't know Curry Ranks made Same Tu Cosita lol

Yeah there’s a lot of classism in Jamaican culture. I used to work with a J’can lady and she had nothing good to say about the “ghetto” Jamaicans. She even advised me to stay away from certain spots and subsets when visiting JA. So yeah, there’s tension between the social groups that outsiders don’t truly understand.
It's absolutely leftover from the British.

You saw nothing wrong with “he would go back to where he came from?” That was the only egregious thing she said. Everything else she said was valid up until that sentence.
Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with the statement. We're too quick to mollycoddle those who promote slackness and put them on a pedestal.

All this smoke for someone not wanting certain behaviour in their community, but none for that skin bleaching, demonic, murderer.

I'm not Jamaican, but the only resentment I have for him is the fact that he led us all to believe he was saying, "Sean De-Paul" all those years and not Chanderpaul
