Elephant man, shabba ranks, sizzla, ziggy Marley, mad cobra, Damian Marley, shaggy, bounty killa, Buju Banton, mavado, Wayne wonder, spragga Benz, Kevin lyttle, beenie man, Sean Paul, vybz kartel, etc…a lot of good vibes and good memories from that era as a young kid

Never forget the classic legends/pioneers of soca/reggae/dancehall/riddim too: burning spear, super cat, Peter tosh, alpha blondy, bob Marley & the wailers, etc

Them dancehall ig comments would make you think hes Major Lazer status from other Jamaicans
I remember when tropical house ( basically white gentrified dancehall or blue eyed dancehall/reggae fusion/riddim produced by predominantly white DJs in the EDM world) was briefly popular among the mainstream audiences in the mid to late 2010s. Major laser, diplo, Kygo, Justin Bieber’s purpose album in 2015, drake and Rihanna with their hit song in 2016 « work »

I mean these people can consider outsider cac edm djs repackaging dancehall as tropical house as culture vultures, not Sean Paul who was actually a born and raised Jamaican and repped the musical genre, the culture and the country.
Sean Paul is not a favourite but he’s respected in Jamaica. He ain’t on no Kartel, Bounty, Buju and Beenie level though with Jamaicans.

He’s more like the fast food version of dancehall.

Sean Paul was basically gateway riddim/dancehall for non Jamaicans/carribeans. His music was their first taste of it. He was probably the drake of dancehall in the early to mid 2000s. Both entertainers were of jewish blood, were light skinned and were the most profitable and popular artists of their genres at their peak of popularity/revelance. For better or worse they were the faces of their musical genres too.

Early life

Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques was born in Kingston on 9 January 1973. His mother Frances, a painter,[12][13] is of English and Chinese Jamaican descent.[14][15][16] His Portuguese paternal great-grandfather's Sephardic Jewish family emigrated from Portugal to Jamaica in the 17th century.[17] Paul’s father also has Afro-European ancestry.[18] Paul's father, Garth Henriques, was believed to be descended from Portuguese horse thieves who were fleeing from bounty hunters in a ship that sank in Jamaica.[19]

Paul was raised as a Catholic, although he also attended the Jewish private school Hillel Academy in Jamaica.[20][21] Several members of his family are swimmers. His grandfather was on the first Jamaican men's national water polo team.[22][23][24] His father also played water polo for the team in the 1960s, and competed in long-distance swimming, while Paul's mother was a butterfly swimmer.[25] When Paul was 15, his father was arrested on charges of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison; he was released for good behavior when Paul was 19.[17][26]

2003 was a great year for summer dance floor bangers.

He was definitely saying Chanderpaul - Cricket (Sky Sports)

Stop believing everything that's said like a damn tourist. Dat yute ent never had no kinda cricket interest in his life, he saw an opportunity to expand his fanbase and lie to dem people in the interview.

If it's any one thing his people are very, very good at...it's seizing on any opportunity that floats by :mjlol:

You can even ask Shivas if you ever get to meet him, he will tell you the same thing.
