I would take him with the 1st overall pick. He runs a legit pro style offense and can make all the throws. He just played a really good defense and his receivers are trash this year outside of Rashad. I don't know if you noticed this but his team is trash this year and he has to force throws they would be 5-6 right now without him. Mariota is just a system QB who has bust written all over him. Just my eight cents.

Majority of those INTs are simply poor decisions. 2 last night were actually good defense when they disguised and had someone underneath and Jameis just do not see them sitting there. Geno Smith didn't throw 17 INTS his last college season so do that means he was a better prospect? Negating his current pro performance.
I thought Geno Smith was overrated too.
Even in the draft, everyone thought he was a reach pick for the Jets.

We'll just see in 3 years whether Winston is a good NFL QB.
I doubt it.

You guys have to balance Winston's great 2013 with his mediocre 2014.

I don't think Winston is accurate enough down the field to be a successful NFL QB. I don't think he knows how to look cornerbacks off his receivers.

I'll just leave it at that, and those of you who disagree can stay mad.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
His play this season is the byproduct of a lot of different issues. I do think he could use another year, ideally. But, I'm 99.9% sure he's gone.

  • He has regressed technically in some aspects of playing QB. If you look at last season's games (particularly the games early in the season last year) in comparison to this season he doesn't go through progressions nearly as quickly (if he does at all), nor is he as effective with eyes and dictating what safeties and LB's will do.

  • As far as the aforementioned, some of it is laziness from Winston. Yet, it is also that teams now have studied FSU's and Jimbo's basic route tree extensively, and our tendencies and know what we're going to do (even if it's an option route). For example, FSU has not run one double move all year at the WR position. Not one. Kermit will never come in and run or fly or something like that. We do nothing to really break tendencies, so teams just sit on stuff. Most of his interceptions are in the middle part of the field.

  • Lack of timing and trust with other receivers which has led to forced throws to Greene and O'Leary, which has resulted in a good number of picks.

  • The film is out. Just as Jimbo's tendencies are well known, so are Winston's now. DC's know he likes to make the big plays and now force him to be patient or suffer the consequences.
Jameis can be a great NFL QB. A big factor will be what team he goes to and if he can sit for a year or two. Ultimately, as I've always said it will come down to him and his mindset if he is great or not. If he comes out and plays the gunslinger like he has this year, he's going to have huge problems. If he plays like the black Brady with a lot more physical ability which is how he can play -- he's going to be fukking legit. It will not be an ability thing if he doesn't "make it." He can make every throw on the field.

Comes across as apologetic for Winston's performance.
I'll concede Winston has room to grow and that he can.

But I doubt he ever will.
Winston has the arm strength, which is what most fans and scouts love because they think it can overcome everything else.

But accuracy and decision-making are more important, and in my view Winston is lacking in those areas (particularly accuracy 20 yards down the field).

We'll just see.

Unfortunately, he CAN NOT return to FSU. It would be career suicide. As others have said in this thread, both sides are probably ready to part ways.

Exactly folks on here are slow. He wants to return but he can't with the pending trial and the media placing hit on FSU the brotha has to leave ASAP.

I simply say the decision-making. Accuracy isn't an issue. You see his deep balls from last season? He doesn't have a stack of receivers with manifested NFL-talent like last season. All it is.
