Listen to the way she discusses fictional characters. One of many reasons art literacy is declining boils down to large groups of people being unable to understand or grapple with anything they don't agree with. On one hand she says Baldwin is a complex person. On the other hand she is upset that he'd dare...write a story featuring multiple complex, grey characters who are not all "good" or all "bad" because they are human beings. She wants the author to put disclaimers in his (fictional) novels stating "I denounce this character beating his wife and acknowledge this is very bad behavior I in no way endorse or enjoy."
You cannot discuss art with these people. And clearly you cannot discuss race or gender criticism with these people either. Peep her disdain at the mere idea of a black man having things harder than anyone. They despise black men. We're perhaps the only group of men they feel they have the power to destroy, and clearly they're trying.
