There are a lot of actors who could play 007 once Daniel Craig retires from the role he despises: Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender (even though he's Irish), Tom Hiddleston (of Hiddleswift fame), David Oyelowo (who actually voices the character in the audiobooks). Hell, even controversially-mustached human man Henry Cavill thinks he has what it takes.

But there's only one actor who should be the next James Bond, and that's Idris Elba.

Idris Elba Knows Who Should Be the Next Bond

Henry Cavill Thinks He's Prepared to Be James Bond

There's been some back and forth on the subject of Elba as Bond. It began back in 2014, when emails released during the massive Sony hack revealed that then-studio co-chair Amy Pascal told a colleague, "Idris should be the next Bond." And for the last few years, Elba has very strictly maintained that he is NOT going to play James Bond. In fact, he thinks the next Bond should be a woman (might we suggest Thandie Newton or Naomie Harris?).

Now, new reports indicate that James Bond producers are starting to lean toward the idea of Elba taking the role. As the Independent reports:

Director Antoine Fuqua revealed the details of a conversation with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, in which she said "it is time" for a non-white actor to take on the iconic role. Fuqua discussed who might be next in the running with Broccoli, who's certain the progressive move "will happen eventually", with Idris Elba a reported frontrunner for the role.
It's not much, but it's a good sign that Bond producers are at least leaning in the right direction. (Esquire has reached out to the producers for comment and will post an update if we hear back.) What's interesting though, is that when it comes to the topic of Bond, Elba's response is often that no one is really considering him for the role. This certainly changes things.

Nothing but respect for my James Bond.

I think they should make a film in the same universe as James Bond but make Idris his own original character to make a new black pop-culture icon.
Now THIS I can get with. I'm not really fond of the idea of a black actor merely replacing a white one for a role that is traditionally white. I'd rather see black people create their own thing.

We as black ppl may suffer from ageism wayyy more than others...always saying somebody "too old for this and that" ....when if u really look at it ....you don't really get that good at shyt until 28-47 yrs old unless you are an elite athlete.....in Hollywood they be 35 playing a high school sophomore

I'll believe when I see it. Ian Fleming, the creator of this character, couldn't be more British and white if you tried. Hard to see the Broccoli's caving to the internet's request. They'll get someone like Cavill or Hiddleston and keep it moving.

Personally, creating a black MI-6 agent should have already been done. Idris is producing now, so what is stopping him from getting some writers from WME to help him make this a reality?

I like Idris, but Chiwetel Ejiofor would be a much better choice if they were going for a new Bond. Plus they'd get at least 4 movies out of him.

He isn't handsome enough ...

They need to grab Henry Cavill and get it over with. Idris is too old for this role
unless he goes full hollywood and starts using botox then give breh a villian role

and branch it off into another movie series of it's own

You know good and damn well they're looking at BP's success and understanding that a black Bond could get to that level.

Money talks man.

You can't say no to a billi.

This and they still gonna miss the boat. Black panther success isn't tied to just throwing a black character on screen. It was the fact that it was an authentic character who was based in a place with a bunch of black folks. Not tokens and not shucking and jiving it up.
