his influence on Zimbabwe n their independence was huge

not to mention Ethiopia!!!! ( but thats much deeper)

you guys really have to take time and learn about how powerful and influential this man was

look deep into his lyrics ,take a look at his most known song " buffalo solider "

"redemption song"

"war"

put it this way,if you want an artist who will give you strength to overcome the struggles that certain people in this world bring then bob will be picked 9 out of 10 times

Black American struggle is my struggle and solely and intimately our art as a display to the world. Still is. That's why people appropriate our style because it is pure human emotion and joy, pain, and reflection.

You gotta understand that culture and history of gospel, blues, and the pain and joy are personal...not designed to be universal like Bob's approach. So just like they don't understand Tupac's lyrics, they pretend and embrace it because it has so much power in the words and poetry... Bob Marley comes across as a likeable figure that writes motivational songs and preaches the golden rule, eye for an eye etc.

Bob's pain and emotion was a chosen religion and self appointed divine purpose that could be likened to politicians, cult leaders, and social activists.

I would rather have a conversation with Bob Marley vs. James Brown to learn philosophy...
But James can show me through his scars and pain and experience how to actually live the philosophy and not just exist in the middle of it.

James Brown was a living example of soul and progress and the value of hard work and forcing the world to not ignore our voice in America.

You're right, people chose icons like some movements...look at Kendrick and BLM and Be Alright...

How many Marley songs are being used as weapons to fight? Anthems for change that you can't turn away from?

Naa breh. It's low testosterone preaching.

Think pieces. Weed music. To each their own.

Advocate for unapologetic black pride ?

Black and im proud or slave driver will ketch that fiyah and its gonna be some burnin and looting tonight.
One was doing funky joints with his permed hair the other grew locs and followed a black liberation movement that worshipped an African as God.
Robert Nesta Marley was a revolutionary

Pac had to make gangsta rap to get in the door to drop gems and plant seeds.

Social norm of the time where EVERYBODY was doing it in entertainment.

So if Bob Marley shaved his hair off...he would not be a true man?

Your logic is flawed my man.

I get it though. We don't like when people don't agree with us.

I voted James Brown because i feel like his music was better at the time. but realistically, if i had to listen to one of their music today it would be Bob Marley.
His music feels more contemporarily acceptable. Whereas with James Brown, i feel like you have to be in a throwback sort of mood.

i just used an example, Marley's Zimbabwe song was influential in their independence so much so that he performed their for free

weed music? highly disrespectful but im not really surprised

put his life on the line for Jamaica to bring calmness

and if you know about Jamaican politics you would know how dangerous that is , endorsements lead to death

again his music was more powerful, pure as can be

anyway we can go on and on so lets leave it here

Bob was clearly influenced by James n em early in his career.
But he turned around and said that shyt soft!
Joined the 12 tribes let his hair do what it does despite it being viewed as anti social and none of that beeswax shenanigans either.
And he was Burning. Down. Babylon. Every. Single. Day. Until he was called home.

Robert Nesta Marley was a revolutionary. Selah!
