I'm literally the guy that made it.
Went damn near 20 pages and the consensus came to Marley having a larger social profile but James dwarfing him in musical importance and impact.

Not that simple. The late Fela Kuti openly mentioned the influence that James Brown had on Afrobeat.Folks deadass think America is the epicenter of the world that’s why![]()
More white people care about Marley.
James is undeniably more influential for more years and across dance / live performance and a staple sound during civil rights.
Marley was talented, but was idolized by Jamaica and was marketed by white America.
what are you talking about
his influence in africa alone is huge
James brown of course
i swear we had this same discussion a while back too![]()
Bob Marley as far as the person, James Brown for music.
Yeah that’s also true but when head towards Asia you start seeing a high up tick in reggae culture, I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the Indians in Trinidad And the Chinese in Jamaica might just be a coincidenceNot that simple. The late Fela Kuti openly mentioned the influence that James Brown had on Afrobeat.
Both men cast large shadows across the globe.
These music history threads never stick to the topic of history though.
I never lived in Africa...what is Marley's influence there...from your perspective?
But you could argue that Marley didn't have as much impact on Africa as James and other figures such as Ali, Malcolm and King in the 60s in Africa.
Marley meant something different, than what Black America needed and wanted.
His songwriting and arrangements were dope, but you have to understand that the main export from America was Black American culture and kids were singing James Brown way before and R&B and soul and James' dancing is still the basis of Hip Hop today...He lives through Chris Brown, K-pop, Breaking Crews, everything.
I'm sorry man. Marley doesn't have the ingrained immersion that James has.
Reggae was great and is even greater today but nobody is trying to be Bob Marley.
Advocate for unapologetic black pride ?Bunch of Yardies and cacs coming out with pitchforks.
I get it though. Marley was a tough cat. Guess I'm biased to JB because he is a way better live entertainer and advocate for unapologetic Black pride.
James didn't give a fukk. His energy was atomic.
Marley makes me want to smoke weed and chill. That shyt is boring and complacent after a while. I can't speak for everyone.
