Oh okay thought you was trying to be sneaky because you think it's the weakest link but if you say so :mjlol: I'll take your word for it.

Again, I never judged the album definitively but I expected a let down and based off the singles I wasn't expecting much except for the I Like That song. You're actually trying to put words in my mouth but I'm gonna call you out on it and I won't let you lol. Everyone has their expectations when it comes to music whether high or low so I was just sharing that.

:mjlol: No comment, you know how I feel. I feel Archandroid was her best effort and is a classic. We'll agree to disagree cause we will get no where with this one.

No, I'm being honest. I'm really trying to see things from your perspective and see how you can hold this album up so highly but I guess everyone will not always see things the same way so I'm gonna leave it alone lol. I mean like I said the story on Arch Android, the rich instrumentation and I could go on and on makes it better to me. Maybe you really like pop music or the sound on DC and can appreciate it in ways I simply can't. It's like looking at a picture and me and you seeing two completely different things here.

I agree with you there, that would have been out of this world for real. That would have been so dope.
Yeah, you did and you were proven wrong in the end. Rule of thumb. Don’t fully judge music (or accuse a person of being biased while doing so) without listening to it first.

No I’m not putting words in your mouth, I’m just telling you how you came across. It also came off as you wanting me to say it sucked, but that never happened. When you were doubtful a few pages back. I kept telling you Janelle would come through and that I had faith in her. And she did come through.

I feel like you’re just being sneaky a bit with trying to argue with me in this thread but I’m actually tired and really don’t care.

And I like all kinds of music. If you follow me closely on here, you’d probably know that. But I’m guessing you aren’t aware. I made a thread on Kamasi Washington’s new album some weeks ago, and people were surprised that a thread like that on a Jazz artist was made in the booth. My thing is that I love Hip Hop and R&B, but I love other styles of music too and can appreciate great music as a whole. Just because Janelle dropped a pop album (with different elements as I’ve explained before) doesn’t mean the music is of lesser quality. She further showed why she shouldn’t be placed in a box and why she’s one of the most important artists of this generation. Just like how I love the eclectic sound and execution of The ArchAndroid, I feel the same about Dirty Computer. Once again, you don’t have to agree but at least respect my opinion and leave it at there.

It would be nice if she just went back and did it for the fans. Its only right since The ArchAndroid’s sound is very theatrical and cinematic. But yeah..

Smh, you don't have to rub it in lol and I wasn't fully proven wrong because again I didn't speak definitively, I just spoke on how I felt the record might be and admited I was wrong.

I'm not trying to be sneaky to argue with you at all, I mean what would I get out of that? You're right though that this is tiring because it's like beating a dead horse at this point and we are getting no where. I wasn't trying to make you say it sucked but just was creating dialogue and that's all. I in fact wanted to like this album a lot more then I did and would love if I could honestly say it was just as great as the Arch Android as a fan but I can't. I wasn't hating and didn't mean to come off like that because even if I did not like this album at all I would still want to be objective.

It's funny you mention Kamasi Washington because I've been meaning to look into his works as well as Thundercat's last record. I do know you like different genres and not just hiphop and RnB, I'm aware of that but at the same time I'm personally not the biggest pop music fan and am picky with what I like from that genre so maybe that's why I don't appreciate this album the way you do though I do respect your opinion on the album. I don't get you putting it up there with ArchAndroid but hey it's cool lol.

Also yeah that would be nice if she went back and did that but the time for it seems to be long gone. Maybe if she completes the Cindi Mayweather trilogy with her next album she can do a full movie or something for it and tie in some songs from the Arch Android but who knows. I would hope if she does it then it gets the appreciation it deserves.

I tried talking and explaining why I would put it up there, but I felt like you didn’t want to understand why I felt that way. You called it “blasphemous”. Lol. I mean it’s all subjective at the end of the day. We all like what we like and the only thing we can do is agree to disagree and explain our stances. And from there we either chose to listen and try to understand the opposing side or not even do the former.

I didn’t expect anyone but myself to like this album based one the negative reaction of the singles. But I was kinda surprised. I’m glad other people were feeling it and it means a lot that you actually think it’s a solid record after all. I can see why people wouldn’t think it’s up there with her previous albums, but I see greatness in this album and I see it aging gracefully too. Just like The ArchAndroid and The Electric Lady.

If you don’t really listen or care for pop music, then I expect that reaction. Once again, because of that, After listening to DC for the first time.. I kept saying that y’all might not like it. But it was refreshing to know that people were feeling it. To be honest, Pop isn’t my most listened to genre but at the same time it doesn’t stop me from appreciating a good album if it’s executed well. I’m also very picky with that genre too, but that goes for all music. I won’t go up for something if it isn’t good or doesn’t move me. *shrug*

Kamasi is amazing! The Epic was one of my favorites albums of 2015 and one of the best this decade, however it is a very long album and you may not be able to listen in one sitting. I loved Harmony of Difference (the EP he released last year) too. He’s dropping a new albums called Heaven and Earth in June and it should be another great project from him. I can’t wait for it to drop. I enjoyed the 2 singles he’s put out so far. Thundercat’s record, Drunk, was also great too. I think he’s a hell of a bassist/guitarist..and is very talented of course. ;)

Yeah, maybe someone will ask Janelle about it and that she would consider it. It’s one of those things that I would still like to see happen even though The ArchAndroid drooped nearly 8 years ago (May 18th will mark exactly 8 years). We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed for that. The idea of a full movie sounds really divine btw.

Exactly and the thing is I tried but it's like we are looking at the same things very differently and that's okay because what makes great music and art is subjective. This is all opinion based at the end of the day and while to me your notion is one that is very far out there to someone else they may understand and fully agree. I just feel with the level of musicianship and other factors the Archandroid is not even a good comparison and is so much better then DC but again your entitled to your opinion on it and this line here is not a ploy to get back into an argument with you on this either lol. Let's drop it.

Indeed, I'm surprised I find it solid myself after how I felt on the first listen and how I felt on the singles.

Right, different strokes for different folks as they say. If you like it and it moves you then that's all that matters, everything is not for every body and that's one of the coolest things about art and music. The variety.

Cool, I'll check out the Kamasi album and EP you mentioned some time in the week. I heard a lot about him but haven't had the time to really sit there and listen to his music. As for Thundercat, Facts! He is super talented and I know about him for a minute because he is signed to Flying Lotus one of my favorite producers. I have to listen to that Drunk album for sure when I get the time.

Damn, almost 10 years. It's crazy how fast time flies but I agree that would be incredible if she does that. I agree.

Once again, it really means a lot that you enjoyed DC because I respect your opinions and passion too.

I know right? Seems like yesterday when it dropped. Can’t believe that was my during my sophomore year of college. Album really caught me by surprise. It really blew me away!

Flying Lotus is amazing, and also one of my favorite producers as well. Dude has a great ear for beats/production too.

Likewise I respect your opinion, your passion and that you're into different genres of music. Lol but aye Ms. Brown Sugah what did I tell you about that :mjlol:

Also facts! I remember it like it was yesterday as well and I remember her going to different radio stations and doing interviews for it. Then when it finally dropped it was out of this world to me. To this day I never heard anything like it the way she blended so many genres together on that album, the way the album's tracks go from one to the other so smoothly and the song writing as well. Her and her team really did there thing.

Oh wow, you know about him too? To me Flying Lotus is one of those musicians who is a freak of nature. I can't wait to see what he does next and what he does with his label too.

@Guvnor hey, speaking of Thundercat... he played bass on “Take A Byte”. One of the reasons why it’s one of my favorites on DC is because of that damn baseline. :blessed::blessed:

Wow that makes a lot of sense listening back to that track. That was one of the songs I thought was cool on the album.

I also found out Organized Noize made the beat for I Like That which shocked me. Can't imagine they worked on that one but they did apparently.

You better take the hug while I’m in the mood. Things might change tomorrow.:mjpls:

Hmm... so you should understand why I felt that way about DC being up there with The ArchAndroid since I mentioned how they both have done an amazing job at blending genres. But it’s whatever. Lol.

I just think that her producers are some of the most talented in the industry. Nate Wonder, Chuck Lightning, and Roman GianArthur always bring out the best in Janelle musically. And Janelle always brings out the best in them as well. Everyone who is apart of Janelle’s team/Wondaland are basically creative geniuses in my eyes. The journey from The ArchAndroid, to Electric Lady, to Dirty Computer has been amazing to witness as a fan/supporter.

Cosmogramma is one of my favorite albums of the decade. I enjoy his other records too. He’s highly skilled and very talented on the production tip. I’m very interested to see what he does next too.

Yeah it’s a top 3 song for me on DC. Probably my most listened to song at the moment too. I love everything about that track, and Thundercat’s blessing on the bass made it even more amazing! :blessed:

That’s what’s up! “I Like That” is a bop for sure! Love that one and they did a great job on it.

Oh wow, you met her?! That’s dope! She seems really nice.
I am a tv news photographer and I get to interview celebs from time to time. She was such a great interview and very easy to talk to.. Inwish I had more time to talk to her but she was in the middle of a press run.

:mjlol:Lmao Damn so it's like that? Your hugs are fickle like that smh. Well keep your funky hugs to yourself, I didn't want one anyway or did I lol...you ain't right!

As for dirty computer being up there with Archandroid, no I don't see it doing it as effortlessly or well as Archandroid and you know this lol but again I respect your opinion. I do agree that her team and her are geniuses though and they are extremely talented. For them to make the music they do together as far as the different styles they pull from shows that they really study and know music. They really make a great team and even though Dirty Computer is not my favorite Janelle album I still look forward to what Wondaland put outs next.

I agree with you on cosommogramma as well, that album sounds like it came from a whole other world or something lol.Indeed he is very talented.

As for Take A Byte, I agree that bass like the icing on the cake for that song. Also Indeed, they did their thing on I Like That and hopefully they do more new work cause they are some great producers for what they did with Outkast, Good Mob etc. coming out of ATL.
