Lol! Hmm.. You we're a lot nicer to me before.. what happened? haha!

You said "maybe I did want a hug"... well, well.. (sounds like a hint to me)

:lolbron: Lol hush! shh...

Also I said maybe that's not a hint. Gosh, your reading too deeply into this. I don't want even your fake hug cause you took it back lol, it's too late now anyway.

LOL! You hard-headed, I could not get you to understand why I felt a certain way. But honestly, the coli is wearing me out tbh. Debating about music is a real work-out. I am trying to understand the opinions of others in here tbh... and people are dapping and making small comments but not elaborating on their stances like you have. I respect your passion and how you gave it another chance after running it back the first time.

I just want people to appreciate music for music. Just because Janelle is black doesn't mean she should be pigeonholed to one sound or make a certain type of music.

I actually enjoyed the back and forth with you, even though you were getting on my nerves at first. LMAO... J/K.
Lol I feel the exact same but we agreed to disagree so that's just how it is, we interpreted things differently. Also if you want to understand them better then why not ask them a question. I hear you though, it can be tiresome and it got that way at a certain point in our discussion as well for sure so try not to let it stress you. Thank you and I respect you sticking to your guns so to speak and I also enjoyed our conversation as well and look forward to having more with you :sas2:

As for Janelle I don't think the people who don't like this album do so because they pigeonheld her in a box to make a certain kind of music but some people are just not a fan of the style of music she made here. It's not about her being black making it but I could be wrong.

Look dude, you told me not to give you a hug. So I backed up, and now you saying my hug is “fake”. Make up your mind. LOL!

I quoted one of the lurkers who made a post on the last page, and dude basically was ignoring it. I don’t get people who dap and play tag team, and then when called to the carpet, they all silent. But whatever, it’s not that deep.

Oh really? I’m looking forward to those as well...lol :sas2:

Well people were saying that the album was too “pop”, but The ArchAndroid and The Electric Lady had pop elements to them as well. Dirty Computer is more pop in comparison to the others. but in my opinion, it has the same eclectic vibes as the other records too. But once again, different strokes for different folks. Once again. I’m just glad there are some people on here who fukk with DC and can appreciate what Janelle did with it.

Based off of the posts in here, it seems like a few people want Janelle stuck in a box and don’t want to see her grow and progress. And I just hate seeing talented black artists like Janelle being pigeonholed by people who want her to be a certain way musically. Same goes for all of the other artists I love and appreciate. But that’s just me though.

Can't wait for Pitchfork to rate Dirty Computer higher than EL.. and what if they rate it higher than The ArchAndroid too? :sas2:

:mjlol: Oh nah, not this again. We will see.

:russ:Lol no comment. You took your hug back too fast, that's the problem.

Yep, different strokes for different folks. Not everyone is into pop music and so maybe that's why they can't get into it. I don't think it's they want her stuck in a box but maybe they don't like the changes she made. At the same time that's how it is with most artist, people hate to see artist change or experiment too much in most cases and it's always a risk. It shouldn't be like that but with it being the music business it's about what sells and popularity so that changes things to where it's not just about the art.

Well I have a couple points regarding what you said.

Firstly, I know when she came into the game she was real clean and wanted to be a role model but I can't be mad that she decided to let loose and may curse a lot more now. That may be attributed to her growth and not wanting to take on that responsibility as much any more but wanting to be free from that and to do her, or maybe she was only pretending with the clean cut stuff and when she saw it wasn't successful for her she changed. All in all though It's her art and there are people who actually say a lot worse that you listen too so it's not fair to try and put her down cause she uses curse words or talks about her p*ssy lol. There is a space for that kind of talk and it's for a mature audience.

When it comes to the pynk song for instance, I don't find a problem with her trying to embrace her femininity and her love for women especially in the extended version on the DC emotion picture it is what it is. However on Django Jane I too thought it was unnatural and felt Jidenna penned that track cause it doesn't sound like her. It was also cringey the way she spoke on taking your girlfriend but other then that the song grew on me a little.

Why do you say she is fake?

My last point is about that song you posted, that is just as weird as Nelly's song "Down Down Baby" being about going to shoot someone. Goes to show you that with the right beat it's easy to overlook the lyrics. I actually have a copy of the Audition which that song is on somewhere on a drive of mine and maybe on my old ipod touch as well. I listened to that song and thought nothing of it but she picked the wrong beat to make that kind of song over breh, for real! I ain't even gonna hold you lol. It's like the beat is so happy and cheerful and she really needed something more minor with that topic. It's very creepy and disrespectful to even make a song like this period and in light of her coming out as a lesbian or pan sexual maybe there was never even any hope for dude at all if this is based on a real story. Her vocals were good on this but nah, I can't co-sign that song one bit. That's foul she played dude like that and spoke on it after he died.
Her tone in the sing itself was a humble brag to me. Meh.

Yes there are worse artists but I listen to but they're consistent. They don't heel turn on me, become a whole different artist and then make weak music on top of it. To many changes not enough results.

Artistically, Janelle in this image doesn't come across as natural and if this is the real her she need to go back where she came from because she didn't establish the entirety of her fanbase off trash like this. It's not growth to me it's a step back. Desperation for a career that is about to be over

Not because she's gay but it just don't sound right on her.

She moving into that Rhianna lane and even rhi isn't this corny about sexuality.

I don't think so, I think it was supposed to be empowering though it could come off as bragging but I don't think she meant it as a brag. Even if it was meant to be a brag in rap music that's what you're gonna get lol. How many rappers brag about what they have? Again, I don't think it was a brag though.

I hear you I wasn't feeling the album either. Can't say it's trash cause I think it's solid but it does sound like a step back to me though at the same time I feel artist should be able to experiment and go a different direction if they want too. All in all it's just not my type of music and I felt maybe she was reaching for more commercial appeal on this one for sure.

As for this not being natural I don't think I can agree, I feel she is letting her hair down a lot more these days and maybe your just not use to that from her cause it's very different from her before when she was keeping it super clean. Either way there is a very big difference here and I can agree.

Summary

The album is wack

Her nasty side is corny

She's not a rapper she's an r&b artist that came in acting like she wanna sing Disney channel music and James Bond film score and threw it away for the sellout move.

You don't heel turn in r&b. That's like if Shanice or MaryMary started singing about getting plowed and eating p*ssy. shyt if Amerie came out singing songs like Jhene Aoki. Don't nobody wanna hear Amerie talking about eating booty Like groceries Stoppit it's disgusting. The shift is to far left.

It's not a good fit. Her career is over and she is about to transition to Hollywood where she hopefully gets naked on camera and fulfills her descent into the arms of the devil.

This is the first Janelle Monae album I have listened to it and didn't care for it much other than a few tracks. Just seems to poppy and made for radio. Going through the pages here, it sounds like a lot didn't like this album but like her past work. What albums would you recommend of hers, and what kind of music is it like? I went into this album not knowing anything about her and was surprised she sang and rapped. Are her other works both singing and rapping or just one? I think I'll like her other work that wasn't meant to be so mainstream.

LOL at Janelle’s career being over because she did not make the album y’all wanted her to make. The Coli makes me laugh, I swear. And once again, just because an artist is black, doesn’t mean they should be pigeonholed to R&B. Lol.

Arch android is a master piece and electric lady is amazing .

If you want to ease into here try electric lady .
Lots of soul music on that album but arch android will blow your mind .

Girl I'm real Janelle fan I've been with her since literally the beginning when she had no following .

The album is just soulless .

You don't have time r&b to have soul in your music .

Even how she's singing sound wack .

Janelle can fukking blow and these songs just sound half assed .

Pigeon hole yourself into making quality products

When an artist is using taboo sex to sell an album her label knows what time it is and are trying to save profits with out the closet gimmicks.

The day of getting an attaboy for being gay is over.

She need to just leave the Android thing alone. The concept execution here was half hearted compared to previous albums and largely triddash.

That rap voice? Stale and boring. You not a rapper.
