Arch android is a master piece and electric lady is amazing .

If you want to ease into here try electric lady .
Lots of soul music on that album but arch android will blow your mind .

Thanks will check those two albums out.

Girl I'm real Janelle fan I've been with her since literally the beginning when she had no following .

The album is just soulless .

You don't have time r&b to have soul in your music .

Even how she's singing sound wack .

Janelle can fukking blow and these songs just sound half assed .
R&B is not the only genre in music. If you are a real fan of Janelle’s you would know that she isn’t limited to R&B. But I feel like y’all are doing just that. The ArchAndroid wasn’t even an R&B album.. surely it had elements of R&B but there were other genre’s included. The same can be said for The Electric Lady, even though it’s her most “urban” sounding record.

Just because it’s mostly pop doesn’t mean the music is bad. Now as a music enthusiast, I can’t sit here and agree with that. I love R&B but I can appreciate different styles of music. And I think this album is a nicely executed Pop album with catchy melodies.

Now I’m surprised that there are a few people on here that are actually digging the record. But I expected the dislike from most every before the album dropped. So it’s what I expected.

But all in all, good music is good music regardless of genre and influences. I don’t think black artist like Janelle should be limited to only one sound.

We going from Janelle’s album being considered trash because it’s pop and not R&B to D’Angelo not being as talented as R. kelly because he doesn’t have as many hits. What’s next Coli? I am getting a headache. Lol.

Brownsugah you honestly just sound salty, people don't like the album and then you go on her defense like you are her manager trying to protect her. The album wasn't great and I listen to all kinds of music. Do I have to give some grand reason, not really. It was kind of trash.

If people don't wanna like the album, let them feel that way.

No y’all just don’t fukk with it because it’s not what y’all want from her. All y’all sitting here trying to do is pigeonhole her.

Secondly, you basically said you knew nothing about Janelle’s music, so who are you to say anything?

Thirdly, if the album sucked, why in the hell is it the most critically acclaimed album of 2018? Why is EL her least acclaimed album? Why is the Coli the only forum trashing it?

You surely don't read :snoop:.

The music doesn't have to be r&b to be soulful .

Janelle does every genre of music .

She does pop very well this album just wasn't it it lacked soul and felt empty .

No you don’t get it. You keep mentioning R&B and Soul like you’re limiting Janelle to that. And you listed that as the reason to not liking the album.

But whatever.

Hi, just taking in the convo. You can guess where I stand based on the daps though lol.

The Coli... make music outside of Hip Hop & R&B, then your album sucks..
I don't think that's it. I'm used to her not always making Hip Hop and R&B. In fact, that's part of what drew me to her; I still bump Violet Stars Happy Hunting today. But like many have already said, this album ain't it. I was surirpsed to see you say it's up there with The AA, when I don't even think it's touching EL.

I like pop music, but this just didn't blow me away like my favroite pop albums would, or even a Janelle Monae album for that matter. The only songs I strongly mess with on here are Don't Judge Me, and maybe Django Jane. There's some enjoyable tunes on here yeah but overall they didn't leave much of an impact on me, and I gotta say, I'm disappointed as fan.

I respect your opinion, but I think it's more concise and consistent than The Electric Lady, and you saw that other people (off the Coli of course) were saying the same thing. The Electric Lady has songs that are some of her weakest. "We Were Rock & Roll" and "Dance Apocalyptic" being two of them. Sure it has some amazing highs like "Can't Live Without Your Love" and "Sally Ride" but from start to finish, I don't find it to be as consistent as the other two. I also think The Electric Lady runs a bit too long too, and doesn't fulfill it's mission as well as it's predecessor, The ArchAndroid. Sure the ArchAndroid has 18 songs too, with "Make The Bus" being the only miss, but I felt there was a good reason for it's running length. And all of the songs were of quality. I'm not too big a fan of longer albums, unless there is a real purpose for it.

What are your favorite pop albums? I'm curious.

I don't find it to be empty one bit. I find it to be honest, and bolder than her previous albums. Sure it's not better than the ArchAndroid.. we can agree on that, but I believe it's better than The Electric Lady.

Summary

The album is wack

Her nasty side is corny

She's not a rapper she's an r&b artist that came in acting like she wanna sing Disney channel music and James Bond film score and threw it away for the sellout move.

You don't heel turn in r&b. That's like if Shanice or MaryMary started singing about getting plowed and eating p*ssy. shyt if Amerie came out singing songs like Jhene Aoki. Don't nobody wanna hear Amerie talking about eating booty Like groceries Stoppit it's disgusting. The shift is to far left.

It's not a good fit. Her career is over and she is about to transition to Hollywood where she hopefully gets naked on camera and fulfills her descent into the arms of the devil.
Woah, I won't say her career is over but changes need to be made. She shouldn't push so hard for commercial success I feel cause her music before where she didn't do that was so much better.

I'm so upset this shyt is so soulless I only like maybe 3 songs and that's a stretch .

I just don't feel any of the songs like I usually do .

The music is just so fukking empty .

I'm so disappointed :mjcry:.
If you don't like it then the album really ain't up to par for sure :russ:

:mjlol: Oh nah, not this again. We will see.

:russ:Lol no comment. You took your hug back too fast, that's the problem.

Indeed:sas2:

Yep, different strokes for different folks. Not everyone is into pop music and so maybe that's why they can't get into it. I don't think it's they want her stuck in a box but maybe they don't like the changes she made. At the same time that's how it is with most artist, people hate to see artist change or experiment too much in most cases and it's always a risk. It shouldn't be like that but with it being the music business it's about what sells and popularity so that changes things to where it's not just about the art.
Well it got a 7.7... which makes no sense because the review was written like it should've been rated above an 8. But whatever.

I don't think you'd be able to handle another conversation like this.. unless I'm wrong? :sas2:

Change isn't good for most. People/The consumer want what they are used to and when that artist does what they don't expect, the consumer is ready to turn their backs on them.
