This is the problem with this forum...I'll give you credit for saying you'd listen at least. most coli-posters don't even bother to listen before they decide to form an opinion on an artist and speak on them as if they know what the fukk they're talking about. but damn bruh, you could have at least listened to some of her catalog before making a statement like that

I understand forming an opinion and having it, but it would of been more respectable if OP actually took the time to familiarize himself with some of her material.

I'll admit myself, I am not familiar with any of her music at all, so I can't say anything positive or negative. I really just think on the Coli (and with the internet in general) people just like to ride out opinions just based on what gets daps/what others are saying/etc. and try to present them as some sort of verified fact. Maybe that's why I see thread titles like "Andre 3000 is overrated" and SMH.

Cause I'm pretty sure you know what "most people" feel in regards to her music, right?

I'm sorry, mayne. I'm not trying to be a dikk or anything, but I genuinely just laugh when I see people saying this type as if they know how most people think or feel about something. More than likely if they like an artist or a musician (or dislike them on that same pretense) it's because of reasons entirely of their own.

This is why I don't post here as much. Janelle Monae is "overrated" yet the same dudes that be saying this worship Drake/Rianna/Chris Brown etc and other pop-trash artists.

I guess Anthony Hamilton, Raheem DeVaughn etc and the like are all overrated too.

I like some of her songs, but I get the criticisms. As an artist, I respect her for being a non-conformist and for her leaving much (if not everything) to the imagination in regard to how she dresses and carries herself. She can't really be put in a box or pigeon-holed into one particular style. hat's something else I respect about her artistry. In that regard, she's a little bit of Andre 3000, Cee-Lo Green, Lauryn Hill, and 2001-2004 Alicia Keys rolled into one.

I can see where her sound can be off-putting to others though. The one thing that's holding her back is that balance. The balance between doing music that's different with elements from the past and making the emotional connection. For example, she refers to how she dresses as a uniform. I get what she's saying, but on the surface level it implies that music is work for her. If it's work for her, then it makes it a task rather than a pleasure for people to listen.

She seemed demonic on her breakfast show appearence. Had to delete her music after i listened. Came across very spooky with those overly arched eyebrows and the way she was hitting on Angela Yee was
