The ArchAndroid and her Metropolis EP aren't throwback at all. In fact both are very modern albums with futuristic vibes.

A lot of people can't connect with her personally and that leads them to not like the music IMO.

When damn near every R&B /Soul act either has you like , does airhead anthems or is flat out raunchy, you're predisposed to assuming every R&B singer will be like that, so when you got Janelle Monae with her weird haircut, throwback style, rockin suits better than half of us men, you're not gonna be drawn to it unless you just wanna be different.

If Monae kept the style she had before, y'all would be on her clit hard.

Honestly she just isn't that good. An okay singer who has to rely on acting and looking weird to be interesting. She has the whole package in terms of a commercial prototype ...beautiful, can be catchy, can perform well on stage etc but its missing something. Something about it isn't right, it seems off. I don't want to hear "oh you just dont understand her" either...bullshyt I grew up on Prince and I still don't understand him after all these years but I could still connect to his music. She has an inability to build that connection and she comes off as just some novelty act.

Not the same thing. Janelle's one of those artists where you feel weird for liking her. I didn't say her music was more sophisticated or elite. It's just different.

Just look at the first page. Half the comments are about her style, not the music.

If she dressed like she did before

and not like she's gonna serve you Black Label at a wedding reception, there would be more of an effort to like her more..

She's just in her own lane, and usually those artists don't get the kind of support they would somewhere else.

but its funny though because Prince seems to be a huge fan of her...not just because of the feature on the album but past comments he made and how his eyes lit up at the tribute performance years ago
