Janet Jackson’s 80s music is kinda underrated.

I think Janet's career in general is overlooked in MANY spaces due to the 10 year blackball she was under. Ppl don't understand how crucial it is for your discography to be highlighted and marketed consistently to keep younger generations aware and interested. Now I think she's trying to build that up again, getting her YouTube together (some of her videos were missing) and that doc from earlier this year.
Also her brother came through and crushed the buildings. Made the 80s a MJ decade.

LMAOOOOOOO @ underrated

by who? :why:

we can’t look at anything thru this teary eyed bítchmade gen that would attempt suicide if the wifi stopped working.

Janet was a star by the late 80s and the stuff she did then got her that big contract in the early 90s

Chick was working with prime Jimmy & Terry and literally everything they put out was a banger.

I'd say her 80s output is underrated compared to Madonna. I tried listening to Madonna's immaculate collection but found most of her material weak. Janet's music is just better all around, and she is a more compelling artist.

No. If you heard a Jackson on the radio, it was most likely Janet in the mid-late 80's. Mike had the fame, but Janet's music was not drowned-out or overshadowed whatsoever.

Edited because I forgot Mike had the same amount of albums.

The fact that Janet was able(through trial and error) to set herself apart from Mike at that time is insane. She really became an era defining artist and danced right on out of the shadow of her brother. But unlike Mike and other icons like Madonna or Prince, there is a whole generation that is a bit unfamiliar with what exactly her impact on music is.

In terms of success no doubt. But do you really think "Janet." is better than Dangerous? Same thing for HIStory vs Velvet Rope

By '83, Thriller wasn't getting much play. Then, Janet came through in late-'85 and crushed the buildings. Mike came back with Bad in '87, then Janet came through with Rhythm Nation in '89. So, like I said, mid-to-late '80's, you most likely heard Janet on the radio.

Imma keep it a buck wit you….on both Mike and Janet albums they be having ALOT of skip worthy material cuz I’m not a pop nikka….but as far as Jams, Janet in those two albums got Mike hands down (obviously this doesn’t include the greatest hits CD that came wit history)….but Janet’s cuts are phenomenal….. lonely, anytime, got til it’s gone, funny how time flys….she got more too….chick got banger bangers
