The NFL is like a bubble that is about to burst. Don't forget for 100 year baseball was the most watched sport out there. If you were around before 1990 you remember when there was only 3 or 4 good teams.

It is partially. Football is dangerous. I don't think the NBA will pass it but I think once Selig goes the MLB can make a bit of a comeback. This sounds more like hope than anything tied to evidence

Actually, I like the MLB model. But they better change quick because their base is going the way of the GOPs base. GrayingIt is partially. Football is dangerous. I don't think the NBA will pass it but I think once Selig goes the MLB can make a bit of a comeback.
You're still not talking about league popularity. No doubt that as a sport, basketball naturally would have an easier road to being popular being that the game's simplicity makes it easier to process even for a novice of the game. But even with players coming from all over, I don't believe the NBA as a league isn't making inroads compared to its individual stars that are. It's almost like how baseball is modeled here in the states. People love their local teams more than they do the league overall. I don't see the league driving interest on the NBA itself.
Right. But part of the NFL appeal is the everyman middle america sthick. Baseball is a rich east coast sport now. Basketball is for the inner city dregs, despite both descriptions not being really accurate. That sounds exactly like the NBA today which is why most fans don't watch until deep in the playoffs.

How is Baseball a rich East Coast sport when a lot of talent comes from 3rd world countriesRight. But part of the NFL appeal is the everyman middle america sthick. Baseball is a rich east coast sport now. Basketball is for the inner city dregs, despite both descriptions not being really accurate.
Me too. Having the local base and expanding is great and encourages growth in the youth leagues. They are not that far off in revenue either.
The legal/health issues are definitely worrisome though. The less violent football gets, the more likely a wane in popularity is.
Perception. I don't agree with it. People also say baseball isn't fair, although that's not really true either. How is Baseball a rich East Coast sport when a lot of talent comes from 3rd world countries
You know why. Selig turned his back while players were loading up on illegal drugs. The view on steroids today is not the one that had back in 2004.As far as the article i agree as much as i love the nba i think Stern gets too much credit he lucked into Larry and Magic which saved the league then transitioned to Jordan who could possibly f that up?
The international growth while i give him some credit is mostly because of the dreamteam
Its crazy how much credit Stern gets while Selig gets murdered but Selig still runs a more popular league that made 4 billion more in revenue
Even when they give credit to "Larry and Magic" it's a bit overstated. The public also remembered the "Lakers vs. Celtics" back then. Can't tell you how much it meant to me and others when the "Lakers" defeated the demons of the past winning in Boston in 1985 for the first time. The Celtics beating the Lakers in 1984 I think was the best thing to happen to the league because be Boston mystique over the Lakers still mesmerized the public more than bird vs MagicAs far as the article i agree as much as i love the nba i think Stern gets too much credit he lucked into Larry and Magic which saved the league then transitioned to Jordan who could possibly f that up?

What does that have to do with anything? Unlike the NBA post Jordan, MLB recovered post steroid eraYou know why. Selig turned his back while players were loading up on illegal drugs. The view on steroids today is not the one that had back in 2004.
