I guess I just value lyrics more than you when comparing these too.
At least you acknowledge Nas' greatness and Jay's dip in quality as far as lyrical content over the years.
Album for album...Hov does have the adventage.
Both are top 3 for me though, lol.

I mean that's fair enough. For me though how do I assess who's better lyrically between Nas and Cube? Two totally different styles.

NaS,Pac,Big,and jay should be in every credible persons top 5. I can't take you seriously if one is missing.

Cube, Ghost, Redman, Common, HOV/Scarface

3 classic albums that's more than either one of Nas or Big, the latter of which hardly released enough material to merit comparison.

He doesn't have 3 classic albums.

If we're generous, we'd say he has 2 : RD and BP. The Black album is good but it's not a classic. Same thing with AG.

And RD and BP are not on Illmatic - Ready to Die level.

If we're being completely objective he's the clear number one. No rapper ever has come close to his level of longevity and consistency

Longevity is not an artistic criteria. You can stay around by way of politics in the industry.

If Jay didn't mary Beyonce and din"t become super rich, he wouldn't be around.

threads like this further explains people hate Jay so bad they have to discredit everything he's done for hip hop. he's credible for a Top 5 spot, whether people agree or not.

This thread is not about hate or love. I'm too old to have feelings for these rappers. The thread is about hierarchy, nothing else.

You'll get clowned on if you presented that to the masses.
@Inspect Her Deck

Right, that is a bit of a dilemma.
( the quoting messed up so i'm tagging instead )
Yes I can:mjlol: Everyone is entitled to their opinion on music and I'm entitled on who I deem credible. You're saying your ok if someone lists a top 5 of Bleek, wiz,Lil Zane, soulja boy,and bubba sparks

Again...we give Jay 2 we gotta give Nas 1. IWW is not on that level either.

Not if I qualify my list by emphasising the discography factor

Casuals tend to list Pac, Nas, Em, Jay and Big by default. That's a boring ass and logically inconsistent top 5.
