I disagree about how you're characterizing them.
Jay and Big were much closer in terms of lanes than X.
No they weren't, Jay wasn't ever as graphic or had shock value like Biggie, their writing processes show huge differences in personality as well.
Biggie was already stuck in his ways, Hov couldn't be like that the rest of his career and decided to try other ways to express himself. Everytime Biggie said something that hit you right or wrong, Hov always had another way of saying it with a more cerebral and intellectual touch. Biggie was classless, Hov had more class, wit and nuance and still could get under your skin as good as any others.
You're comparing an high rank bully, to an overachieving jock that could still put you in your place (and who had a real dark side), anytime if NY Rap was a reimagined highschool. But because the bully was the principal's (Puffy's) favorite, the jock would go on to be underestimated after the bully died exactly how you expected him too (Some speculate Hov ordered Big's hit, which is not only ludicrous but extremely disrespectful given their past bond as brothers). If "X" was on that Mafioso trend too, whatever but you forgot all 3 did their own styles of Hardcore Rap.
