He's probably also the most underrated lyricist of all time also.
A lot of cats have a preconceived notion that he is shallow, and pretty much a average MC, but that's because they don't take the time to see what makes his shyt brilliant. If one just looks on the surface, they will never be ever to catch the exceptional jewels buried within his rhymes.

ain't no way in hell a man worth damn near a billion dollars the most underrated lyricist :what:

just say you a real big fan or stan of his and leave it at that. but don't come in here and say he's underrated. ain't nothin' bout his ass underrated :stopitslime:

and he is shallow. if he wasn't he wouldn't have done a song like "a dream" and put biggie in it biggin' him up and then even givin' his own self (jay) props

this was just disgustin'. i ain't never seen a mc/lyricist go to these lengths to show the world that they "great". but jay does because he's shallow and knows his limitations as an mc. i wish i could post a link but youtube ain't got 1 but look at this shyt :wtb:

"i see i said, jealousy i said
got the whole industry mad at me i said
then b.i. said, hov remind yourself
nobody built like you, you've designed yourself
i agree i said, my one of a kind self
get stoned every day like jesus did"

^this is just pathetic :beli:

:comeon::francis::martin::mjlol:

jigga and his jehovah witnesses go to great lengths to prove he's all that and then some. but the bottom line he's a shallow good lyricist but he can't accept that which is why he goes to such great lengths such as "a dream" to try and prove he's somethin' he's not. he's a good but not great artist and he know that he was never on big and pac's level and their deaths spawned his success. he also knows he's never been on nas' level and that's why he envied him. he lacks substance as a rapper and yes, i've heard every last jigga album there is; but he knows his bread and butter and true talent is in the frivolous and non-substance havin' club songs and that really gets to him because all of the so-called goats have songs that touch people's lives, make nikkas think and as well as entertain. jay is just one-dimensional as it gets

Eh, it's more accurate to say that Jay-Z is better with wordplay than most of his competition, there's a lot of rappers who are slick with the wordplay though including some who've taken Jay-Z's style and built on it (or at least are as competent with it).

I love jay... he's my No. 2 fav Mc, but there is nothing, absolutely nothing underrated about him

With songs like "It's On"

"The reason why we lead the pack, this is a marathon
You start off fast then you wheezing in the back
So even if I slack, I got enough lee-way
To put out The Reason by the Mac, Philadelphia Freeway
And I'm back, without leaving I'm here, but you can't see him
I gave you the Blueprint but you can't be him"

The way he blends the Marathon metaphor with the wordplay of the Rocs work is GOAT shyt.

When you're doing storytelling you can lead it wherever you want. With Reality Raps you can't just make up stuff so it's more impressive

Another example is GOAT level wordplay is the song Do U Wanna Ride

not read through this thread but im pretty sure this award goes to Nas... not taking anything away from jay-z as he still has good albums and songs but plenty more rappers more creative / clever than jay too... :yeshrug::usure::camby:
