I came in thinking it was going to be a camel gif, but it's really showing love for Jay.

I always think when I listen to Lost Ones that there are a lot of details to him &Beyonce's realtionship that they have yet to confrim.

No Lupe is probably the most clever and creative jay isn't far behind though.

fukk the system/ At Lady Justice I blaze nine/ Your Honor, I no longer kill my people/ I raise mine/ The soul of Mumia in this modern day time.” Dope man one of his most underrated songs.

I’m from the place where the church is the flakiest and nikkas been praying to God so long that they atheist.”

I father, I Brooklyn Dodger them/ I jack, I rob, I sin/ Awww man, I’m Jackie Robinson/ Except when I run base, I dodge the pen. (My favorite)

Dude is part of the Holy Trinity of rap right next to Nas and Eminem

Hov is the first in a long line of "Lyricists for dummies"
I understood all his subliminal lines immediately because they're simple. They're dope, but let's not boost the man like he's a true bar god. He's a rapper's rapper for nikkas that don't read.
Lil wayne is the extremely dumbed down version of him.
"lyrically I could be talib kweli"...ironic. He's doper than Talib on a technical level, but not as dope as people put him up to be. That man is NOT underrated. Overrated? Yeah. Tell him give Young Chris his flow back.

I totally disagree, he is one of the best, if not the best to ever do it. I'm still picking stuff up from Reasonable Doubt to this day. Yes, he dumbed down to double his dollars but always dropped gems.

At the same time though that's the point, his complexity is directed at the street smart and not at the book smart. The wordplay flies over the head of a lot of purely book smart people who in turn look at him as a lesser lyricist. There's obviously a middle ground that some are able to tread to great effect but you can't really fault him for his lyrics being written for the streets

Dude will never get his props from some. These cats will straight up call his rhymes elementary, and that anybody that feels his shyt is impressive is dumb.

They will say that, but when they tell you the names of cats who they feel shyt on dude lyrically, it's like... :comeon:

I don't put a differentiation between book smart and street smart...If you're smart, you're smart. If you're well trained and well read, you're well trained and well read.
I'm a hood nikka who reads books. I think Hov is unimpressive but dope in his "light" way.
Dude dips his feet in the water of full out "killing it" too much for me.

Also, his lyrics aren't for the streets. Most street brehs I grew up with were listening to southern, west coast, or super gangster exaggerated shyt. The smart dopeboy homies listened to old hov but they also listened to Rae and Ghost.
If I wanna hear that type shyt, I'll listen to Rae and Ghost. Not the brooklyn nikka with fake harlem aura.

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Picture if you will that the throne's burning
Rome's burning and I’m sitting in the corner all alone burning

Why does it always end up like this?
Something that we don’t determine

Same people that I fought for, that I fight for, that I ride for
That I live for, that I die for
Be the reason that these nikkas is alive for
And they want me dead but I’m so sorry but I just can’t die for you
But I can make 'em put their hands in the sky for you
We waiting for the fireworks like July 4th
Get fly more, get high more, cry boy, why for?

When the grief is over, beef is over
I’ll be fly when Easter’s over

I tried to teach nikkas how to be kings
And all they ever wanted to be was soldiers
So the love is gone 'til blood is drawn
So we no longer wear the same uniform
fukk you squares, the circle got smaller
The castle got bigger, the walls got taller
And truth be told after all that said
nikkas still got love for you

This verse is also fire.

Dude took the metaphor of a failing Empire and mixed in the reality raps seamlessly. That shyt is tough. Nice ass subliminals to Beans as well.

The wordplay at the end...Soldiers...uniforms..squares, circles, smaller, taller.

It seems simple but it ain't
