I agree. Why is the 40-hour work week the default?

If you want to be some lazy-ass, then go move to Europe.

America is the land of discipline and hard work.
do you know how hard it is to gain citizenship in another country?

I was mowing lawns and cutting wood for the house when i was 9 years old.

And kids do need discipline and hard work. My wife went to school in Taiwan. They had a 6-7 day school week. they went to school from 8am to 6pm and they had mandatory study sessions until 10pm. Look at Taiwan's school performance versus America's. The proof is in the pudding.

where I live, the work ethic of East Asia and South Asia has taken over grade school. This area has the best scores in the nation.

I have no problems with child labor, but I would prefer intense schooling.

But just because someone is 7-10 years old doesn't mean they can't put their hands on a fulling plow and start working those fields.

we have a whole generation, the milenials, ruined by progressive ideology. What bunch of lazy-ass good for nothing kids.
Is this Gundumb? It has to be... @Mephistopheles

Jeb Bush can eat a bag of dikks.

Anyone that willingly votes for this dumbass piece of trash after what his family has done to this country is just the type of idiot that labor laws were written to protect.

Vote for a rich, souless piece of shyt that would happily send you and your 6-year-old to work 11 hours a day/7 days a week brehs.

and look at how well adjust you turned out...:shaq:

Jeb can get away with saying crap like this because of that pull your self up by your bootstrap mentality.

There's somethign comforting to some people when they think, If only i work harder everything will go away.

Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's not.

You could tell he was spoiled all of his life to say something that stupid.
That's exactly right. It's the most spoiled kids that talk about how no one else works hard. I'll never forget when i was in high school, this mega rich kid that was a senior, had finally gotten one part time summer job, told this bum downtown to "get a job."
:skip:

As far as all this stuff about hard work, 40 hour work weeks, and discipline. A couple thoughts. Assuming that people don't work hard because they don't want to slave out a 40 hour work week for increasingly shrinking benefits and salaries just because they're "lazy" or "progressive" is stupid.

Working hard is more important than almost any other virtue. "Working smarter, not harder" is a false dichotomy. You can do both. I always try to work harder and push myself, but there's definitely virtue in trying to work smart as well.

There are going to be countless jobs in 20 years that don't even exist right now. We're in a crazy time with technology. hard manual labor is part of what made America great. A lot of these manufacturing jobs and labor jobs are falling by the wayside. Look at Detroit. Look at the auto industry. Technology is creating new jobs but it's also taking a lot of jobs away. Props to anyone, young or old, for finding ways to use technology and modern life to find new and innovative ways to make a living for themselves.

I hate lazy ass motherfukkers but I also hate just as much the bullshyt idea that if you aren't busting you ass on a roof all day or working doubles in a kitchen, that you're somehow lazy and spoiled.

America is the land of discipline and hard work.

2 things. First of all, becoming a citizen in another country is hard as fukk. it's not that fukking easy to just "pack up and get out." Then if you're trying to move a wife/husband, kids, parents, pets, etc, on top of that?

Anyways, I just wanted to say that while I disagreed with some of your points in my above post, I have run into a lot of millennials (typically the younger ones born in the 90's) that feel really entitled in the work place. I don't like that shyt at all. I would never say it's all of them by any means, and technically I am an older millennial (born in '84), but I have seen a few shocking things. Interns wanting to be a part of budget meetings on their first day, thinking they can run the company, etc. My friend had a coworker who had their mother call their boss to scold him for "talking to my daughter like that at work."

But it's definitely not all millennials. A lot of us are busting our asses, working hard, and a lot of us are creating jobs and helping to grow the economy.

That's the rub right there though.
Some of the hardest working people on the planet are also the most poorly compensated.
You gonna tell me someone busting their ass on a roof all day fixing an AC, putting up the framing for a house, cleaning a house is not working as hard as my ass who is sitting in front of a computer in an ac'd office looking at numbers on a screen?

It's not about working harder, people already work hard as fuk.

The hardest job I ever had was delivering Ice. 12-16 hours days 7 days a week for 1200 a week. Very physical very demanding work. Working harder was not an issue. Working a job that paid better was. That's what make what Jeb said such BS.

People are working hard, every day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 365 days a year. Working harder isn't the solution.

But yeah lazy people are idiots.
