Wait hold up. So lemme get this right. U. Literally only person in the world who didn’t notice the Snoop influence? Both Dre and Timbo had issues with JD for a reason.

Throwback Thursday Revisits Da Brat's "Funkdafied"

Let’s Talk About The Female Rappers Who Shaped Hip-Hop | uDiscover
Same article says she altered her sound, Not JD. Being a laid back rapper ain’t patented by snoop. Growing up listening to her in real time, at no point was I or friends comparing her to snoop. Maybe older people did have that view…I don’t see it. The most I see is JD running with the funk sound that proved to be successful for death row and def squad…

At the end of day none of this matters, it’s about the music, master p bit everything from his nickname - ice cream man - to sounds…but he/no limit would set off a verzuz with their hits. And JD’s r&b wasn’t biting shyt, Puff bit plenty of trends/styles as well - I will credit puff with being instrumental in creating looks - uptown artists and shiny suit era were aesthetics he popularized. but when it comes to putting in work on artists’ songs jd > puff, hits is a wash depending on how much you want to credit even the loosest affiliations with tracks, puff is clearly the bigger name but their legacies are comparable to me.

nikkas nitpicking fashion of artists as if that’s gonna be part of the set list

Read all the articles I posted. U are arguing to argue. It CLEARLY says that JD’s INTENTIONS was for her to be a female Snoop. This wasn’t a secret or speculation. It wasn’t just a funk sound. She even took the man’s adlibs and shyt like that. This is a known FACT shorty and I’m not finna argue wit u over facts, lol. Feel how u want about the music. I think the music is classic as well. I’m just saying that JD is a habitual biter all of his big acts are based off other acts for majority of his career. He rode waves. Stole images. Took sounds and styles. And rode it to success. He was VERY talented. But that’s his legacy as dope as it was.

And like I said, one, intent /= perception by the listeners. Lots of variance between things happening real time and stories/interviews that come out later - if that was a discussion in real time, cool.

Two, none of that matters regarding these two matching up, no one is gonna not nod their head to funkdafied because JD wanted her to be a female snoop just like no one is gonna turn off the battle when faith’s “used to love me” plays because she was Puff’s attempt to make another Mary, down to the blonde hair

Babe I think we arguing 2 diff things. U arguing whether people gonna fukk wit the songs or not. I’m arguing why Diddy don’t look at JD that way. Same reason Dre and Timbo don’t. It’s unfair cause he’s dope but they all kinda look at him as a hanger on a lil bit.

And I don’t see it, especially regarding Diddy who has done all the same “biter” shyt as JD outside of the aesthetics he created at uptown and during the shiny suit era. Puff ain’t original nor an actual producer/writer. If he feels his level of success/fame/money puts him on another level, ok. But regarding the music “made” - no. And I don’t put puff on dre’s or Tim’s level when talking making music either. Diddy is strong as a label head and man who clearly stayed relevant by linking/working with other hot artists.

This would not be the fight that you're saying it would be. This wasn't a diamond album. However, Puff's name is on these songs and would be fair game:

Mariah Carey- Fantasy Remix

Mariah Carey- Honey Remix

6M+ stateside and 5M+ international equals...

Ok whatever u say I’m not one of these people that think JD can’t compete and I think it was disrespectful of Diddy to say JD don’t got the hits. JD has the talent over Diddy. Diddy has the vision over JD. There’s plenty of things Diddy and his team did that wasn’t done before he did them. He wasn’t the one physically doing it but it was under his guidance. Bottom line is JD, as talented is he is/was. Pulled from the game but didn’t bring much new to it.
