:mindblown:

they were NOT no dam one-hit wonders.

they had 3-4 hits on that first album alone.

there are ZERO one-hit wonders that are seen as legends.

I know right??

ive dead-ass seen people on here claiming mc hammer was a one-hit wonder as well.

gotta luv the coli.

.

timbaland?? nah.

neptunes?? nah but you could at least put up a nice lil argument.

what hip-hop from Atlanta was moving on a NATIONAL scale in 2001?? not a local scale, I'm talking national.

outside of Jermaine dupri, it was just outkast & Ludacris, who were always seen as coast-less rappers to the general rap fan across the country, just like so so def.

the rest of your post after the bolded, has nothing to do with what I was saying

Timbaland and The Neptunes >>>>> JD as Hip Hop producers and it's not even close. JD would barely make a Top 30 where Tim and The Neptunes would easily crack the Top 10, 15 at least.

Timbaland has been a part of every pivotal Jay Z album not named Reasonable Doubt and is far more influential on Hip Hop production than JD. He had key records and some of the bigger singles on those albuns and Jay still performs those songs until this day. Even many of the ATL producers have Timbaland as the reason they are producers over JD. Kanye had Timbaland program his drums and is on record saying he wanted to make beats like Tim, Dre, RZA, and Pete Rock. That's not even mentioning the fact that while Brat is the first platinum female rapper, Missy is the most successful. Every artist that both JD and Timbaland have produced for, Timbaland had the bigger and better song from Luda to Jay Z to Fabolous to Lil Kim to LL Cool J to Snoop.

Same goes for The Neptunes vs JD.

Tim and The Neptunes have done more for Atlanta artists than JD:

Cee Lo Green
Young Jeezy
Pastor Troy
Ludacris
T.I.
Migos

I agree. It doesn't mean he's responsible for better or more timeless music, but he is a producer for one so his sound is naturally more widespread, and Outkast is so original that it's damn near impossible for anyone to emulate their sound or style successfully without looking like blatant dikkriders.

JD's impact is immense LOOKING back.

I think this is the key.

At the time, JD was seen as a bubnlegum joke. Remember, this is when ny was still heavy and hip hop was about at least appearing to be a thug or thug respected. JD went as far from that image as possible. He was the universally acceptable, safe negroe.

And he never repped atl hard because he was before atl was recognized as anything. Huge as it is now, in the 80s and 90s, atl was comparable to what we think of perhaps a Tallahassee now. Or fukk it, maybe where I'm at, Jacksonville. You may heard about it, but the name wasn't ringing bells.

So no, he didn't rep atl, because there were only a few cities that mattered back then. Only cities like ny, LA, oakland, houston, miami, had the nerve to broadcast their location. If you were from another city you left it up to the listener to guess where you were from :russ:.

Or you associated yourself with the nearest city that was poppin. For instance if I was from Jacksonville and made it big, my music would appear like and I may even claim Miami :russ:.

Yeah without JD there would be no ATL Hip Hop

This is a lie. Kilo Ali, Raheem The Dream, and Hitman Sammy Sam were putting it down before JD. Ya'll in here rewriting history. Arrested Development was from ATL. Nobody associated them with ATL and they hardly get brought up now. Kriss Kross (which is where JD's ATL association with Hip Hop starts) wasn't associated with ATL either. Kast dropped before So So Def released a Da Brat and before JD was making Bass compilations.

JD didn't rep Atlanta at all until AFTER OutKast and Dungeon Family took off. He didn't invest in other ATL acts until 2003. It wasn't until 2001 that he even made a song that repped the city and this is after Kast had "Elevators" and "ATLiens".

This is the prime example of The Booth taking something and running with it. It's fake because JD rarely gets talked about on here and nobody never talked about him in association with current ATL. Now all of a sudden, JD is a pioneer of trap and influential in ATL sound and culture.

A lot if posters in here straight up exposing themselves like JD is all of a sudden the end all/be all of ATL, when he's an ATL resident who hopped on a wave once it became cool, but couldn't be bothered with movements coming out of the city.

Tagg Team, Kilo, and several others were successful Bass artists before JD. In fact, they have/had more influence over the city than JD. I think someone else mentioned MC Shy D who had records produced by Toomp. Sonically, Toomp is more influential than JD.

1st Album 4x Platinum, 2nd Album Platinum, 3rd Album Gold that's no one hit wonder. Give respect when Respect is due
FOH with the manipulated numbers, guess how many of those were bought by Columbia Records, or boosted up by Soundscan/Billboard payola? Dumbfukk, you think any song besides Jump or any album besides their debut is still remembered today? I swear idiots are losing IQ points by the minute these days, shoutout to @Wacky D

I won't say the numbers are inflated, but to act like it's an achievement plays to people referring to Kriss Kross as one hit/one album wonders. The sales declined significantly after their debut with each album. There is no consistentcy beyond the significant decline.

again, ATL wouldn't be where it is today, without JD

Those local acts didn't have the sort of modern impact JD has today

Nobody's saying that JD didn't play a role in it, but to act like JD has all this influence over Atlanta is fake and people in here claiming that he does are fake for doing it. JD loses points for saying this BS too especially since just last year he was talking about how Atlanta Hip Hop wasn't taken serious.

That last statement shows the sentiment of you even trying to comment on anything Atlanta related. They are Atlanta artists who hold much more weight and influence over the sound of Atlanta than JD ever did:

^^^ I'm not even acknowledging your posts on ANYTHING Atlanta related unless you watch this video since you want to talk like you are an ATL historian. I myself am not a historian, but I grew up on a lot of this music. Dude discovered Dem Franchize Boyz, Young Dro, Drama, and The Dream (yep THAT Dream) and you want to talk about JD birthing talent scouts. Raheem even put me up on game in this video because I grew up on his music, but didn't know he discovered a lot of these artists.

JD talking about he's more influential on Atlanta than Kast, but then took the title and concept of his Atlanta anthem from this:
