They trade Revis, I'm done as a Jets fan, period.

Guess whose going to quote this?

He hasn't even opened his mouth yet in regards to a contract yet we're attributing things to him already?

there are plenty of things the Jets have done recently to be done with them...trading a guy with the most trade value on a bad team isnt one of them....especially with the unlikelihood of resigning him after this year and they cant franchise tag him.

Jets need draft picks more than anything...

why are they saying they can't sign him if negotiations haven't begun?

they gave him word that the previous contract was a "band-aid' contract, revis expressed his desire to remain a jet in december

jets going back on their word

Of course they could sign him....its a matter of wanting to invest all that money in one CB....that could bring back some decent chips trade wise. Not to mention, the Jets pass D was pretty good this year without him.

yea no landry next year, cro is not gonna keep playing like that, kyle wilson got burned consistently in one on one coverage, yeremiah bell is solid but he's old

revis is still relatively young, other than mo wilk and coples i wouldn't mind overhauling the entire defense if it means keeping revis

devito is a free agent, pouha was non existent, david harris is stealing money, davis is prob gonna start, pace is gone, b. thomas is gone, mcintyre surprisingly did well

i see no reason why they can't afford to sign him

We need to find a QB. If trading Revis helps us do it...whatever. I love Revis and seeing him go wont sit well with me...but think of it this way...the best CB playing next week is Carlos Rodgers. Last year it was Corey Webster.

Cap hits in the absence of agreeing on a new contract are:

1. Trade him before June 1: $12M this year.
2. Trade him after June 1: $3M this year and $9M in 2014.
3. Keep him for 2013, and then he's on another team in 2014: $9M in 2013 and $9M in 2014.

There is still some $12M that the Jets have paid Revis that haven't come off any prior salary caps. If he is extended on a new deal, that works out to $3M/year from 2013-2016. Then you have to add in all the new bonus and new salaries on a new contract. If he's seeking $15-16M/year for 4 years his cap number will be $18-19M/year because of the past money. But it never works out that way because salaries aren't ever drawn up evenly from 1 year to the next and this would be no different because we couldn't fit $18-19M for Revis in 2013 ($10M more than he's scheduled to count today). So say they reduced it so his cap hit in 2013 is about the same as before (about $9-10M). Then that's another $3M more he'll count, on average, over the 3 following years, making his cap hit on those back 3 years about $21-22M. For a cornerback.

If he isn't willing to take about $12M on a new deal (with built-in holdout penalties, etc.), and I doubt he could be locked up for that little, then he has to be dealt.

why tho? we have no QB. No RB, a cartoon DL....a trade like this, if we can fetch a good draft pick package, would kick start a much needed rebuilding process. Dont get all attached to Revis island. We tried and failed with that squad. Good management knows when its time to fold em. As great as he is, Revis is just a corner.

And trading Revis automatically fill those voids?

Even with a bum knee, he's still the most certainty the Jets have. I can't put trust into management to suddenly make this a Herschel Walker trade to their benefit.

if other teams can afford both a qb and star defensive player, so can the jets

how the broncos affording dumervil at $18M and manning at $18M?

st louis has long at $16M and bradford at $16M

the ppl running the organization making bad decisions and handing out money to shyt players, but that shouldn't be the best players fault

If we were in position to land a Peyton Manning, we'd be a win now team, and locking Revis up would be a lot more important(if they organization deemed so)

Peyton Manning unfortunately isnt walking through that door.

I qualified it by commenting on the potential quality of the package offered...but yeah, if we can get a solid collection of pics, why wouldnt it have the potential to do so? The point is to not get attached to a corner, when we have so many areas of need, and so little young talent. Im thinkin Hershel Walker type deal here....

I just want a new era. This squad makes me violently ill.
