Reason being is because they tore families apart, split them up, even killed family members to control them, stole our language, took our names, denied us of education, and one day said ok you're free, make your way. Say what you want but black schools don't get funding, we have to work twice as hard, amd some of us have family members that vividly remember the 60s. The headline and the article seem at odds. Most of the people they interviewed seem to agree with reparations but want to make sure it goes to who it's supposed to go to which is fair.

The common criticisms are:

Who gets the reparations?
American descendants of slavery.

How do we determine this?

A separate government team that works with census data and processes claims based on a mixture of self reporting on IDs and or census data going at least 3 years before 2018, dna testing and physical evidence such as letters and photographs.

Who would pay?


The government. After of course re-examining tax revenue spending streams and reallocating resources to the reparations fund. Alternatively a 2% added tax on any corporation which can be traced to slavery or prison labour. Many individuals and businesses profited from black labour. Families with a net worth of more than 5 million dollars will also have their taxes raised by 2 percent over a 24 month period. Part of this is allocated to the reparations fund.


How much will be paid?

A committee to study reparations consisting of historians and economists will decide this. Reparations is not just for slavery. It's for redlining, it's for jim crow, it's for share cropping, it's for all the millions in stolen labour through vagrancy laws and other racially motivated laws.

This is a country that invented social media, nuclear fission, the transistor, and put a damn man on the moon with as much computing power as a modern graphing calculator. This is the same country that put out the GI bill, the homestead act, and the new deal all of which we were excluded from.
This is also the same country that spent trillions of dollars it didn't even have on wars in iraq and Afghanistan with fukk all to show for it and suddenly reparations is a big challenge? Get the fukk aaaaaaallll the way out of here with that stupid bullshyt

Reparations is the only way for this country to move forward. It may not remedy the past but it will show that this country is sorry for the hell it has put black folks through.
