On paper...

They had a MEAN roster....

From in-house production to actual talent...

The combination of collaborations/albums/cross promotions that could have occurred if everyone was on the same page was endless...

That's one of the reasons why Dash kinda bitter..

He missed out on millions
He could get back in

If he would publicly admit he had a part in what happened

I believe that’s what’s holding jay from helping or working with him again

He don’t have to say what he did

But admit he had a hand in the fall of the roc

Dame acts like he did nothing wrong at all

When the story’s been out there

Jay said himself that he told Beanie, Freeway, Young Gunz, etc to FLOOD the streets with music a year beforehand because he knew 50 was coming and shyt was about to change but they didn’t listen to him.

I think its soft key forgotten how much of a super nova 50 was at the time. I was never a fan personally but it legit felt like 50 just completely took over Hip Hop OVERNIGHT. In The Club and 21 Questions were EVERY fukkING WHERE! You could NOT escape those two songs. Get Rich was hot as fish grease. Then the G-Unit take over, then The Game. 50 had a good 5 year stranglehold on mainstream rap the likes I wonder if we’ll ever see again.

Its a wonder that somebody like Kanye was able to break through as the “breath of fresh air” the way he did.
Exactly

The Roc misused those Phily cats. At least DOGG Pound gave us a classic (even though it wasn't techically on DR).

They gave us a classic, State Prop alone gave us 2-3 between Beans and Freeway

I think if the Roc would’ve stayed together State Prop would’ve continued to have power, they actually suffered the most because they was just hitting their stride with Peddi coming into the fold

That tape Sigel did before he went in is a classic by itself

I love Death Row to death, was just listening to the Murder was the Case soundtrack reminiscing like crazy a few days ago, but I think people overstate their actual musical output and it’s exposed when you compare it to a label like the Roc

They truly dropped the ball on some magical shyt because Jay was selfish

Dame is a headache...

I should have been more clear...

Dame seen the vision of where it could have gone if the cards aligned....

In saying that...

I don't fault Jay for leaving him in the dust

You're overestimating the Roc. But that's really another debate.

My point was not about quality per se, but about influence. The Roc did not have on the East coast, the influence DR had on West Coast rap. DR demise sunk WestCoast rap.

The Roc was just one among many in terms of pull in the East. It did not have the centrality DR had on the West. In terms of peak, the Roc does not come close to Bad Boy and is slightly behind even Murder Inc.

I disagree with just about all of this but I don’t want to go back and forth all day
