All 4 are listed as editors as their official job titles. So he didn't go right for the content, he's looking to build from the top down.

He's got the HBO show, and we know a website of some kind will follow in time. He's got 4 of the main people behind Grantland, I'm sure more will follow once he's got more of a plan
Makes sense. His ability to build a team isn't really in question at this point

I always wondered what the hell some of the people that were on that podcasts did since I never seen them write much. Being editors makes a lot of sense now.

Zach Lowe, Bill Barnwell, Robert Mays are the only 3 I fukk with...

Lowe is good enough to have his own NBA site or show or something...

Barnwell and Mays are :russ:...they keep it pretty even keel now but when they disagree, especially Mays with Barnwell...shyt is :russ:

The podcast between them from either last year or the year before last when Mays shytted all over Barnwell top 100 list is a top 10 podcast of all time to me...You can legit feel the :mjcry: in Barnwell soul...

So all of them tweeted today in unison that they're excited to work working on this new "project" together

If it turns out to be another website (which is likely since he just hired 4 editors), then I'd expect Simmons to go after the writers like Lowe, Barnwell, etc

But he's not gonna go hire anyone to write if they have no platform to do it on. Gotta create the space first, and he obviously thinks highly of these 4.

Nobody is going to any Bill Simmons website without ESPN attached. People barely went to Grantland and that had the biggest sports media backing a website could have.

They put money behind it, but they advertised it like shyt. Made no money off the podcasts according to Simmons, Grantland has a tiny link on ESPNs page and the only Columns they ever spotlighted were Simmons.

If they find another backer, and get advertising to monetize all those podcasts, they'll do fine if they can recreate what made Grantland a good site.
