Nobody is going to any Bill Simmons website without ESPN attached. People barely went to Grantland and that had the biggest sports media backing a website could have.

Breh, he has one of the most popular podcasts on the internet. I think you are severely underrating the following he has.

Still, that's one medium. It's a lot easier to get people to listen to him talk than to read 5000 word articles comparing NBA players to The Wire characters. Grantland was an expensive art project for ESPN and they knew they would never recoup. They lived with it because it gave them a chance to win awards and accolades from snobs. HBO doesn't need that exposure; they're already winning tons of Emmy's for sports content.

They put money behind it, but they advertised it like shyt. Made no money off the podcasts according to Simmons, Grantland has a tiny link on ESPNs page and the only Columns they ever spotlighted were Simmons.

If they find another backer, and get advertising to monetize all those podcasts, they'll do fine if they can recreate what made Grantland a good site.

They monetize other podcasts, it might have been personal as far as his are concerned. I think he can make a decent medium if he ever gets over himself.

I watch college football and MNF. NBA. I don't watch their "shows" or other content.

I'm going to miss the Right Reasons. I don't even watch reality TV but Jacoby and Juliet Litman kept me up on all the developments without me having to watch it. Hollywood Prospectus was also good.

ESPN must have given Jacoby a raise when they gave him the radio show. Jalen needs to be on NBA TV so he will stick with ESPN. I don't see the pure sports people (Lowe, Barnwell, Mays, Keri) really leaving

i like his podcast and the sports side of grantland is probably my favorite sports site going (including the podcasts). 30 for 30 is cool too.
