They destroyed the bridges they made with the core gamers with all the bullshyt they was spoutin... There was alot of first hands on reviews of the xbox one and it was extremely negative. You could not remove the kinect, You could not play without an internet connection, and if you did it was a 1 hour interval... The entire system designed around the kinect was a horrible move, because they forced the damn thing down gamers throats trying to shoehorn it into everything. It was an albatross which not everyone wanted but it wasnt until they changed their tune because they was loosing money then they changed it. Remember the Xbox one was unbundled from the kinect and was now cheaper? LOL... Remember that?

They basically tried to create a Steam Box. But the problem with that is you cant use that model if your competition is going the traditional route.

For that model to gain any traction two things need to take place, 1st every console manufacturer has to be on board (which will never happen) because a download only system that keeps the portability aspect of a console will need to be riddled with DRM to keep people from sharing games everywhere and your competition could easily just say "look our system has no DRM" (which is exactly what Sony did) and they would gain a huge amount of goodwill from the consumer base. Also not everyone worldwide has access to unlimited bandwidth and really high speed internet. You would run into a situation where it may take someone all fukking day to download a game or even worse they cant download it at all without going over their cap. Especially with games coming in at 40GB and more.

2nd you basically have to say "fukk retail" because the big draw of a Steam Box is the publishers can determine the price of their games, which leads to massive discounts and bundles. Well Gamestop, Wal-Mart, Best Buy etc... cant compete with a marketplace with zero overhead and they would get crushed trying to sell games at 59.99 when online they going for 30.00 and as is the case during Steam sales under 10 bucks. So once again your competition shows up and says "Hey retail we are still here with the traditional model" and guess who gets all the advertising and shelf space?

As far as the console war bullshyt goes everyone knew Sony had this in the bag as soon as MS announced all that online only shyt. MS underestimated how different the PC and console markets are and they are paying the price for it. Personally i hope MS does well and is able to rebound next gen as im a fan of some of their properties. Ive never understood why anyone would take an active interest in seeing a large gaming company/division fail especially when gaming is your main hobby. MS, Nintendo, and Sony all push each other forward in this industry and losing one of them would have massive repercussions going forward.

I used to like Jim sterlings videos but lately they've become a call to arms for Internet raggers instead of the balanced rational commentary they used to be.

The claims of "lying" are a bit much since they've been very open talking about the changes.

The only true change in "vision" was the DRM stuff. That was changed well before the system was released, so I'm not even sure why people still bring it up like the Xbox changed after people bought it. I think they've made the changes for two reasons. First is because they've seen other consoles that struggled from the beginning and never caught up, so they wanted to make the necessary changes sooner rather than later. Second is because they have new management and new management likes to make changes. Phil spencer said they would concentrate more on "core gaming" and that's what they're doing. They are still releasing original programming, they just don't need a dedicated studio to do it. Those resources will go to game studios. Seems like a good thing to me.

If you look at both the ps3 now 360 now and compare them to their original form they are both very different as are the strategies or "vision" for those consoles. Are both of those "lying failure" machines?

If you go back and watch the Playstation 4 reveal, half of the shyt they talked about for their "vision" is non-existent on the PS4 console. Is that a "lying failure" machine?

Cutting the kinect is MORE profitiable for them. They was selling the Kinects at a loss first off

Every system connected meant the cloud would help out all games.. developers could develop games knowing they could pull resources from all the connected XB1's. It would have made it so the system gets stronger by the month. It'll still happen, just at a slower rate. They have to make some adjustments

Taking out Kinect does not mean Kinect is dead. Kinect is not going anywhere.

Someone with a brain...Sony knew this, especially the bolded. The playstation brand is HUGE worldwide and they know everyone didn't have the access to a reliable fast internect connection so an online DRM check in those areas would not be a viable option. Xbox brand was primarily popular in the UK and North America, so they didn't really care about the rest of the world since they really had no major market there. Sony decided early on to not go that route so it was not a decision made because MS was doing it one way.
