The song was inspired by the classical poet of Persian literature, Nizami Ganjavi's The Story of Layla and Majnun, a copy of which Ian Dallas had given to Clapton. The book moved Clapton profoundly, as it was the tale of a young man who fell hopelessly in love with a beautiful, unavailable woman and who went crazy because he could not marry her.[2][3] In his autobiography, Clapton states, "Ian Dallas told me the tale of Layla and Manjun [sic], a romantic Persian love story in which a young man, Manjun [sic], falls passionately in love with the beautiful Layla, but is forbidden by her father to marry her and goes crazy with desire."[4] The song was further inspired by Clapton's then unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend and fellow musician George Harrison.

I dont like claptons music, there are good songs... but racism aside he was the ODB of Rock for a minute and nobody talks about it
he used to fukk women in front of his wife... drink 24-7 ... play guitar on heroin laying down on stage. They would have to give him apple juice
instead of whiskey at 5am so he could wake up at 9am and get ready to do it all again

another thing i want to add is mitch mitchell didn't get enough props as a drummer. that man was amazing. especially on the 2nd experience album. there's a reason hendrix brought him back and got rid of the other dude(i forgot his name), from band of gypsys.
