People like you are the reason Joey Votto got a $225 million deal.

No I'm not, the Reds owners are why he got it.

And again, WAR is far from the end all be all, but it's a good indicator of value (Not future value but what you have done). There's definitely other elements to consider when discussing players, no one stat gives you all the answers but it's FAR better than batting average. Gimme a break

That over-reliance on WAR is the reason Shin-Soo Choo got a ridiculous deal. It's held way too high in regard with analytics people.

I love how batting average is not an accurate way to judge a player anymore. Why even hit?

Stop using logic fallacies

Batting Average not of zero importance, but why use batting average when there's waaaaaay more things we are aware of now that gives us a better indicator of the quality of hitter? On base percentage is infinitely more important, so is slugging, so is wRC so is wOBA, and many other stats that show you how valuable someone's bat is. Not to mention, batting average doesn't encompass things like defense, power, or ability to draw a walk.

Again, placing far too much value on all of that. The Giants won three of the last five World Series and they had very few analytic studs in the lineup.

The eye test can tell you whether players are good or not. Analytics tend to over/under value many players.

if he stayed healthy he be more than worth it
He's hit over 30 HRs once and driven in more than 100 twice. We're talking about a middle of the lineup player too, so I don't want to hear how great his OBP is. His own manager got frustrated with him because he'd rather draw a walk than drive in runs.

He isn't getting pitched around like Barry Bonds either.

This logic is ridiculous

1) This isn't even true. The Giants had quiet a few players that WAR loves. So, that's wrong.
2) You evaluate players based off their production not championships. This isn't a sport where one man can dominate a single game like a great NBA player or QB in Football. The best singular player doesn't make his team win, but he can help. And ignoring it and saying "Homers, Defense and Walking" doesn't matter is absurd. If you just bought a team of the highest batting averages and ignored everything else, your team would not be good.
3) Eye test lie. Nobody watches enough games to properly evaluate any player not on their favorite teams.
