JJ carving out a niche for himself

It’s a setup
That's how I'm seeing it as well. Dude ain't fixing any problems and only serving himself at this point.

If you were really trying to fix the problem of the disrespect between generations and make the league look better, you're not going to call out any eras.

It doesn't make it any better if disrespect of eras is limited to one direction. There's no benefit to it. None.

Dude building his own lane to talk a bunch even more shyt later, with more outrageous takes, watch.

I feel like JJ’s comments were taken out of context by the interviewer with Dominique

He was talking about how the 3-Pt line was guarded in the 80s. Of course in general defenders had more leeway with the officials to be physical

It's a stupid point overall.

Defenses adapt to offenses in sports. If you wanna pull your whole offense behind the arc, the defense will naturally follow the offense there. I felt so stupid having to type out something so rudimentary that I have no idea how JJ didn't feel just as stupid formulating this "idea" in his head.

If I'm game planning you for a football game and you're a run heavy team, I'm running a bunch of Cover 3 & 4 for you to face 8 & 9 man boxes, respectively. If you're on that bombs away vertical offense wave, I pull those safeties back and play Cover 2 to better defend the long ball.

It's that simple that it's literally a brainless, moot point.

It’s reality. Defenses back then didn’t guard the 3-pt line the way they do now. The degree of difficulty is different as a result. It is what it is.

Of course they're guarding it differently if the offense is using that shot at a more voluminous rate.

My overall point is that it's completely obvious to the point that it doesn't need to be said, and it sure as hell doesn't need to be couched in a way that disrepects old guard legends, ESPECIALLY old guard legends who not only saved the league but helped propel it into another stratosphere.

JJ took something that an 8 year old could figure out, seasoned it with some generational culture war nonsense, and all just to raise his own profile with ridiculous hot takes. In other words, he took a can of Chef Boyardee, sprinkled in some oregano and paprika, and now wants to be regarded as a Master Chef for cooking an unnecessarily stupid dish.
