Was it really a different genre? Or was it just a woman doing what men had already been doing:comeon:. Its like saying Aaliyah created a new genre when she basically took what R Kelly was doing and did it as a teenage girl. Im giving Aaliyah influence based on her vocals. So many females try to copy that simple, laid back airy style she did in modern day. Im giving Brandy credit vocally because shes highly regarded by her peers as a "vocal bible":wow:. Brandy has sold 40 million albums worldwide. So shes not exactly a bum on that front. Although Mary has sold alot more.

I could feel that if Alicia Keys wasnt sitting at 33. Alicia has sold 70 million albums and has WON 17 grammys:comeon:

Which leads me to believe vocals must have some major sway in this list if you check other boxes. Brandy has 40 plus million sold worldwide. 1 grammy with 13 nominations. Had a t.v show called Moesha that was impactful. And did a musical with Whitney Houston on prime time t.v. Im just saying i think that gives her enough cache to be in the convo. Then vocally Mary and Beyonce getting packed up easily. But maybe im ovwrhyping the impact of vocals because Whitney,Aretha and Mariah are so high. Widely considered goat female vocalist of their eras. I get Beyonces high too,but shes Beyonce.

Alicia ranked higher than Brandy?

Alicia's vocals, impact/influence isn't touching the top 10

You're underestimating Beyonces as a vocalist...

And you're being dismissive of Marys overall career and influence

I ain’t neeeeeeeever trusted a White person’s opinion on R&B :childplease: .

It and gospel and by far the “blackest” genres that people can’t truly get if they’re not from it. It’s soul and has feeling

H.E.R ahead of Keyshia Cole:comeon:

Top ten

10.) Marvin Gaye
9.) R Kelly
8.) Mariah Carey
7.) Prince
6.) James Brown
5.) Whitney Houston
4.) Beyoncé
3.) Michael Jackson
2.) Aretha Franklin
1.) Stevie Wonder

Top 10 damn near looks backwards for me. Donnnie Hathaway and Smokey was somewhere in the teens irrc smh. Not sure how the hell Whitney is so high. And Beyonce is damn near blashemous over half this list. How is there 40 spots between her and Aaliyah:gucci:?

Won't ask you how

Swap Luther Vandross for R Kelly and swap Marvin Gaye for Beyonce and this makes sense to me.

MJ is the GOAT to me but Stevie being #1 doesn't bother me at all. As, Overjoyed, Living For The City, and Too High are enough to warrant the #1 spot. Having said that I think people need to revisit Invincible, because that should've been album of the year, Heaven Can Wait is just :ohlawd: :mjcry:

Beyoncé shouldn’t be top 10

I wish they would stop kissing ass

Replace Beyoncé with Luther

James Brown is funk and soul not R&B

Replace him with Earth, Wind and Fire

MJ is barely R&B

Put him at 10 or 9

Stevie and Aretha are soul - respect to the legends

Replace them too

But most people don’t listen to enough music to tell the difference between the genres either that or they’re too busy kissing ass
according to this list of you're black and not a rapper you're r&b

1. Beyoncé is not Top 30 R&B NOTHING. Not solo at least.

2. Other than that. I have no problem with the rest of the Top 10.
I shouldn’t look at the rest of the list.

3. I’m also fine with letting Stevie be at the top spot.
I was telling somebody the other day he’s The Last One Left; like the Apostle John, this already struggling game will dry up drastically
