When did hip hop fans start hyping up Speakerboxxx/love below like that :wtf: Album sold well due to radio play but I distinctly remember hip hop fans (and OutKast fans in particular) not fukking with it at all when it came out, aside from singles
I've never seen nikkas talk about that album on this site lmao

I never said it didn’t deserve Rap Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2003. I was responding to a post that said it was the best rap album that came out that year.

ok..... imo you have to judge albums for their time and what they were then.

even so, In Da Club, PIMP, What Up Gangsta, U Not Like Me, 21 Questions, Many Men, If I Can't....... those joints still hold weight.

I think almost all of dude's music post GRODT is fukking garbage, but that album had the world on smash.

Outkast had big singles but I never met anyone who was fukking with the album like that.

That’s why I never disputed it was the biggest rap album at that time. However, when you get older, your tastes change. I used to rock with Eminem’s first three albums heavy, but I haven’t listened to those shyts in years. It was funny back then when I was in high school, but I’m a grown ass man now.

GRODT is NOT better than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and i’m willing to DIE on that hill

50 definitely deserved Best New Artist. Thats the one he got robbed of and thats why he walked on stage when Evenessence won but didn’t disrespect Outkast.
Speakerboxxx/Love Below was barely a full hip hop album. That shyt didn’t hit the streets the way GRODT did. No way. It was the pop singles that took that OutKast album to where it was.

SPEAKER BOX AINT GOT shyt ON GRODT

LIKE I SAID THEY WON
DUE TO THE LOVE BELOW
AND THATS NOT A RAP ALBUM

I think OutKast won over 50 because OutKast was safe negros. 50 came out after he was shot performing in bullet proof vests. I think he made a lot of the establishment uncomfortable. The only Grammy 50 has is With Eminem “Crack a Bottle”. I don’t think they gauging off the quality more so than the politics.

Look at all the Grammys JayZ and Kanye has. Some of it they deserve but let’s be real they appear non threatening.

As someone who saw SBLB in ATL at the time, I’ll say a lot of white bloggers got involved and kinda tried to reframe that impact. It was more pop than anything but …tough category.

plus, no no one thought 50 could sustain that level of heat. To come swinging that hard on your first album seems like rap awards dont start handing them out until your second album.

Maybe it was because I was living in ATL at the time but that album ran the streets, the clubs AND the radio at the time. To say its “barely” a full hip hop album when Big Boi’s entire half, consisting of 19 songs, is ALL rap, is lowkey disrespectful and dismissive of the success Big Boi brought to the project. You can can call The Way You Move “pop” if you want but that song mixes funk, r&b, and rap (you know BLACK music) into a song that was a huge hit and during their run a number 1 song.

I ain’t trying to hear that speakerboxxx/Love Below ain’t “rap” bullshyt just because Andre got his Prince on during his half.

I love Trap Muzik but it ain’t hitting like GRODT did…

People didn’t really start really liking T.I until Urban Legend and that’s because he didn’t have that twang in his voice. His voice became more smooth like a barbers preciseness.

In real time Trap Muzik was pretty huge for what it was. The co-signs alone got him noticed nationally. I’m Serious had him hit regionally, Trap Muzik had his singles all over the place. 24’s was on Midnight Club. Urban Legend was bigger but he was damn near internationally known at that point. I say that as someone who loved Urban Legend more than I loved Trap Muzik.

I’m not speaking on The Way You Move I always give Big Boi his props. But the pop songs aka Andre songs are what brought it to its heights.
