The Hawks and Nets have agreed to terms on a trade that would send All-Star guard Joe Johnson to Brooklyn for players with expiring contracts and a first-round draft pick, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

The person said the framework of the deal is complete but that it’s contingent on Williams, a free agent, committing to re-signing with the Nets. Williams is meeting with the Nets and Mavericks today. The Nets plan to pair Johnson with Williams and re-sign free-agent center Brook Lopez to form the core of the team as it plays its first season in Brooklyn in 2012-13.

Update 5:50 p.m.: Multiple reports now say the deal is not contingent on Williams agreeing to re-sign with Brooklyn.

The person said the Hawks would receive Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro and Jordan Williams in exchange for Johnson. Atlanta also would receive the 2013 first-round draft pick that the Nets acquired in a trade with the Rockets.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports the Hawks also would receive DeShawn Stevenson as part of a sign-and-trade transaction.

If the deal goes through, the Hawks would be in position to have a significant amount of salary cap space in the summer of 2013. Johnson is owed nearly $90 million over the final four years of a contract he signed in summer 2010."

why would orlando take on wallace's contract? if it were me, id let howard walk and free up some money. no reason taking on extra salaries of average players. they should have taken the houston(draft picks) or lakers(bynum offer).
