On his controversial “Black folks, stop complaining!” comment at Saturday’s Screen Nation Awards in London

I think people are at a sensitive time in the world at the minute and it takes someone to speak their mind to give a different perspective. We can’t continue in one mind set with one conversation. It’s always good for people to speak their minds.

has NOT increased his dating options (I’m sure this was said at least half-jokingly. Too bad we won’t have video footage to see his facial expressions:

I really don’t get more attention [from women]. I’m quite disappointed with that. I thought my face mathematically added up. I’m going to use some chat up lines like ‘Hey, I’m Force sensitive’. I’ll write a book about it.

Anyway, I don't know why he's so surprised to learn that Star Wars hasn't gotten him laid. His character was a fukking joke....according to Tariq.:russ: I never saw the movie.

Hollywood is very careful with the types of blacks they elevate: dumbasses who can't read subtext, don't realize when they are being made the butt of jokes and see themselves as 'the exception'. I don't know I'm always caught off guard by this shyt. :francis::martin:

You guys didn't listen to what he said. Youre just reading the headline. you guys fall for this time after time, jesus.

I read the article and he didn't explain shyt. He just made a generic statement that people should "speak their mind".

If anything, he backpedaled.

Meh, you got a guy whos career is about to take off like a rocket strapped to his ass and between racists and black people nitpicking, he probably trying
to find a way keep the peace and do his thing.

I don't envy his position cause he clearly gotta tapdance a bit.

This is what he said.

'Star Wars' actor John Boyega apologises for 'not clarifying' diversity comments

----

"Black people! stop complaining! Be the change you want to be!"

"To complain about what is going on is not going to benefit us," Boyega told the crowd. "It is not.

"Be the change you want to be. Be the chance, and continue and focus."

-----

As is, those words deserved a side-eye. He could phrased those words in much better way.

He knew he fukked up, hence why he clarified soon after.

---

Regarding my comments at the screen nation awards (just to clarify) I am not saying that complaints are invalid or should not be heard

— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) March 20, 2016

I am saying that words without action can't help right now. I agree that we need to be heard but some do the talking and no work.

— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) March 20, 2016

But I do agree ! I didn't clarify. I was full of emotion receiving the award and just wanted to say that there was work to be done.

— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) March 20, 2016

I'm not in this position without the people that champion me. I was in Peckham struggling not too long ago. I'm not above anyone X love

— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) March 20, 2016

Really feel bad for not clarifying and quite fearful that I've mislead many. Not about respectability tactics. I'm really sorry X

— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) March 20, 2016

---

So yea, he did earn some criticism initially.

Nah I saw the full quotes, but I wasn't gonna go out of my way to pick it apart. TLR is reactionary as fukk and the last thing I needed was to get quoted by 5 different people.

You really can't please everyone. Im 100% sure there are some people who would prefer he throw his career into the bushes than succeed so...I'm Switzerland with this shyt.

Famous people will always have a gang of haters. It is what it is.

Point is there were many rational people that looked at him funny after those comments and rightfully so.

I'm not saying he was on some malicious shyt, but he did fukk up and he knew it. Hence the clarification the statements, which def smoothed things out.
