John Calipari Is Overrated

He's a great recruiter, but maybe not an excellent coach.

In the past he has built meh colleges/universities into powerhouses. I think it is hard to run a system, when you have all 18 year olds out there... but that is the style of team he has decided to build at UK. So -- you gotta win with them, or get called out for losing.

I think UNC is the better team, but they are less talented -- so if you wanna give Cal props (which I almost always do) you also have to acknowledge that he's losing with superior talent.

Talent isn't everything -- but it is a LOT of things.

And it always gets exposed when kentucky gets into the higher competition tournament, miscoaching cost them wins in 14 and 15 and this past tournament

UNC was the lowest of the 1 seeds, and they were the only southern team to get a 1 seed.

They lost to the eventual champions who had a team largely composed of juniors and seniors with Final Four experience vs. the eighteen year olds on Kentucky.

yeah because they were who they are in the league 2-5 years removed from being raw af freshman, i don’t pretend to be some NCAA basketball buff, but if you broke down a lot of power coaches and teams they had, and should have won you would look at coaches differently, he’s def an A1 recruiter, it’s just hard to get a bunch of new freshman every year to work like a machine to win the tourney

and i'd say that his 2nd best squad was umass in '96.
