This run was horrible cena didn’t have to beat cody at mania this was politics for all the work cena put in when the company was stale after losing rock and austin. Cena the real hogan. This heel run is nothing but austin in 2001 playing heel but still getting cheers

took him awhile to get into groove but he got it now
After he turned heel it was either Rock or Trips was asked if they see Cena changing his gear up for this run, and they said "knowing Cena, it will probably be the same". Red flag. Then it happened, same music, same colors, and Cena looked VERY rusty in terms of character work (understandable). Then they added the black entrance, but it was still the same music, the same look.. All the while the buzzing question everyone wanted to know was how locked in are you with the Rock, elaborate on that relationship. And for the most part it was ducked or given a one liner mention. I thought he finally tapped into some kind of heel character with the contract signing movie star approach. But still not enough, and sure I'll put some of that on Cena being a little 1 dimensional.
In a perfect world, Rock is available and interjected a little more to weave the story..
In a perfect world, Cena completely buys in to being a less stoic heel and dresses Hollywood and wrestles in designer jorts with new music.
In a perfect world, Trips books both Cena's and Cody's slow turn more, and sets up the double turn for Cena's last match in his last month. They were just dropping hints but nothing ever snowballing to this climax we are getting.
But they want to put heel Cody over now at Summerslam, they want to use this for their second biggest PPV. They want to sell and just give Cena some wholesome farewell dates.
I'll still enjoy it for what it is, dude's a legend, but ball dropped, mostly by this man:
Cody wins the title back without needing to sell his soul. Rock didn't care about this sudden change of heart from Cena, not even Travis Scott cared. Cena passes the torch officially after the match.
