I told myself when I was younger, if I couldn't play for Dean Smith then I would play for John Thompson. He put some great centers in the league. R.I.P Coach
We can’t catch a break it seems.
RIP and salute to coach John Thompson! Thank you for giving young talented stars like Ewing, Iverson and countless others guidance and a chance.
RIP to a true legend of the game . Just what he represented symbolically and in actuality gave young black guys hope and inspiration and a model. Hate to go there in an RIP post, but it’s been a lot more revelations lately regarding alotta these “legendary” coaches and big time D1 coaches in general who are absolutely trash on and off the court (and more will be revealed), unworthy of being called a coach and guiding teens through their journeys into young adulthood. But John Thompson embodied coach and mentor and advocate in every sense of those words . Salute to that man for what he did for the game and for black males... and just black people in general .
RIP coach. As someone born and raised in DC, this man meant a lot to US. Nothing but love and respect to big John. I’m glad I was able to go to GT games with my dad and witness the greatness. A true legend
