I don't know and the plan doesn't have to be perfect .

Something is better than nothing

Maybe those schools don't need a football if you can't afford to pay the players
Just like a business, if you can't afford to pay the players yo

Just 23 of 228 athletics departments at NCAA Division I public schools generated enough money on their own to cover their expenses in 2012. Of that group, 16 also received some type of subsidy — and 10 of those 16 athletics departments received more subsidy money in 2012 than they did in 2011.

that a hell of a lot of football programs to cut

I knew you were gonna use that excuse. :rudy:

Look at how many (great) players come from non-powerhouse schools.

You'd have dudes like say Ben Roethisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning etc., going to an Alabama, Ohio St.,, etc just to sit on the bench and NEVER play b/c those schools offer more money

I don't see this as anytime of problem

But, they have enough money to pay the head coach millions of dollars and let him hire a bloated training staff.

Not to mention state of the art weight rooms and stadiums.

Nutritionist and other bullshyt like that

What job other than College football do people have specialized skills and work at a place where they add millions of dollars to bottom line and they don't get paid CASH MONEY in return for there services?

There are only two businesses that get to have free labor.

College sports and slavery

Both, provide free room and board.
College sports isnt a job.

ALL of this is moot because
Manziel broke the rule period...regardless of the situation he knew...and broke...the rule..for money.

He should be ineligible period.
The end

If they do find evidence, it'll be hard for the NCAA not to suspend him for the entire season IMO.

Now seeing they are blaming his "personal assisstant" for this mess. Now I know he's getting off. Manziel going for 4,500 yards this season.

Of course the ATL
How should players be paid? Simple: let them earn money outside of the university.

If Nike wants Johnny Football as their spokesman and he's cool with it, why can't he sign.

Sure, the popular players will most likely get the big checks, but that's only natural. As for those who aren't that well known, they can try to put their name out there, just like everyone else does.

We're perfectly fine with EVERYONE else in this country (hell in this planet), earning money in such a way. Why is it different with the athletes?

Breh you're missing the point. The whole premise were speaking about is these universities & conferences making millions (shyt BILLIONS) off college athletes, it's not just about a player getting money. How would colleges pay athletes? Keep in mind that because of Title IX female athletes would have to get paid too.

So while I agree that players should have bigger stipends & the opportunity to earn money outside of sports while in school, colleges & universities are giving out ALOT for football players and the football program in general already. Schools paying players isn't the answer

My solution bypasses the school thing all together. Allowing players to make money outside of school will at least provide them some means to make money for themselves and their families. Nothing wrong altogether. Dudes like Cam Newton, Derrick Rose, Johnny Football should've been millionaires prior to be drafted.

I also question if colleges are really giving out a lot (especially the big time colleges), considering the amount of money they are making off their backs.

As for the school using their name and likeness...let's be 100, the players deserve a piece. Either the school continues what it does and gives a (pre-determined) piece of the overall money to the players, or they should simply not use their names and/or likeness without the players consent. This is, again, very normal in the real world. Yet, we are making special rules for collegiate athletes. Why?

what do you mean by "ALOT"

Those scholarships don't cost the Uni anything.
