He is definitely more popular than Ali.

The Jumpman logo is internationally recognized. Kids in China and Japan camp out overnight to cop his shoes.

Outside of America, who cares about Ali like that?

People who don't even watch basketball overseas know what the Jumpman/23/Bulls are. And it's strictly because of MJ. NBA is as big and global as it is because of MJ.

Boxing is still boxing without Ali.

And Sugar Ray Robinson >>>
Jordan is famous outside the US. He is not a hero. He is not a near saintly figure like Ali is.
Jordan shoes are a brand of their own now, people who don't care about jordan at all buy them. He did of course jump started the brand in a mayor way. There's no old dudes in Egypt with a Jordan painting in their cafe. He's probably as well known or more world wide, but nowhere as highly regarded or loved.

Terrible thread...I grew up in a country with no American TV channels at all, never watched a game of basketball in my life till I came over here and I knew who Jordan was. For the record I didnt know who Mike Tyson was. Just my personal experience :yeshrug:

I've got a feeling whenever Ali dies it's gonna be a much bigger deal than whenever Jordan does :yeshrug:

this was in the mid 90's when MJ was at his peak popularity. I can't speak on Tyson's popularity in the 80's cause I was too young. But without a doubt almost every person in the world knew who MJ was in the mid 90's
