Still getting paid by the Pistons

Revisiting the decision to stretch Josh Smith
Van Gundy opted to use the stretch provision to give Smith his release. Stretching a player takes the remaining years on his contract, multiplies it by two and adds a year. So the two years and $27 million left on his deal became $5.4 million paid out annually over five years. While his contract would have come off the books on June 30th had the Pistons not stretched him, in the current configuration he’ll be making $5.4 million every year until June 30th of 2020.

The problem is Josh Smith's game relied heavily on his athleticism and when startes to go he tried to be an outside shooter and while it wasn't a terrible idea in theory he should have worked on his range in stages that way he'd be a better midrange shootsr who coukd keep you honest from 3. He kinda figured that out in Houston but I am a bit surprised to see him not on an NBA team.

Somewhat not his fault, he shouldn’t have EVER been allowed to shoot 3’s and continued his career as PF

Hawks fans used to overrate the hell out of him early in his career but he was still a very good player, tho. He was just out of control at times. He was the original Hassan Whiteside in the sense that he was a very talented player but damn near uncoachable because of his attitude.

Most coaches dont wanna have to deal with that type of headache and you cant blame them :manny:.

Yeah he always came off as a knucklehead that never had to mature because of his talent. Wasn't it just two years ago when him and Lance was slapboxing on the sidelines during a game?
