The way i feel right now about the right is the way I felt when it came to that stupid bill that would gut medicare to fund tax cuts. When I found out the only thing stopping that bill would be republican legislators voting against their own personal financial interests, I knew it was a wrap and that bill would pass.

If the only thing stopping fascism from taking hold to turn back the clock on peoples rights is the likes of Josh Shapiro, John Fetterman, Chuck Schumer, hakeem jeffries etc. Then its a wrap. The democratic party right now is not made of fighters hardened by the labor movement, it's made of people who couldn't cut it in wall st. Or Hollywood but want the money of the wall st banker and the fame and following of a Hollywood star. These are narcissists obsessed with their personal brand and career goals, not the wellbeing of americans. If you need any proof, just look at how they treat their own colleagues that are further left and have popular support.

The progressive era only happened as a result of massive wealth inequality and economic calamities that occurred in the gilded age and culminated in the massive unemployment and suffering caused during the great depression. Conservatism and it's goal of hoarding wealth at the top was essentially a non starter for 40 years after that. What we have been in since at least the late 1970s starting with Carter is the regressive era where even the democrats are conservative in their policies. New deal, labor heavy democrats are a dead breed of politician and the only way to resurrect them is to summon them with the kind of suffering that occurred almost 100 years ago.

The good news is eventually the pendulum will swing back and liberal policies like universal social benefits and taxing billionaires out of existence will come back. The bad news is it will require millions being unemployed, dying of preventable disease and malnutrition and riots/strikes on a scale we have not seen in our lifetimes.

The bottom is the only solution I see, but we're not just ushering in an authoritarian state, it's going to be totalitarian. I know those words sound the same in theory, but to the lay person, it's not simply squashing dissent, totalitarianism is squashing thought; it's 1984 shyt. China did something that our government should have done which is to have a firm hand on their banks and private industries. You can make money, you can sell products but you stay in your lane and don't try to interfere with the laws of the country. In america it's the opposite. Our politicians are dependent on donations from the companies they're supposed to be regulating.

So while the Chinese government controls its tech and banking sectors, our tech and banking controls our government. So here we are, with these private companies having the data on everyone and can work hand in glove with their goons in government to get their goals met which include crushing dissent of any kind.

Our businesses are run like feudal societies with kings(CEOS) at the top and peasants(Frontline workers) on the bottom who have no say in the policies (including working conditions and pay) of the places they spend most of their lives in. These CEOs naturally see democracy as an inefficient system compared to what they're used to. You can't have true democracy in a society where people who thrive in undemocratic structures can access the government and twist it into the kind of setting they are used to(authoritarian). If you dont control capitalism, it will turn into authoritarianism. When capitalism fails to deliver and socialism becomes a desirable alternative, capitalism has one final counter: fascism. Your life isn't worse because of decisions made by unelected individuals in board rooms, your life is made worse because of some easily identifiable ethnic or social group. This appeal to group identity as a smoke screen has been successful for so long that they have no reason to believe it won't work this time.
