I work in big tech. I don't recall coming across master or slave terminology very often these days.

You can't just up and change universal terminology. It doesn't work like that in coding where one period in the wrong place would crash the whole system. The person who made this decision has no idea what hell they have unleashed on their internal it and network teams.

They will be ok if they used a strongly statically typed language.

Its linux/unix terminology for master "job" or process and the connected slave "job" process
