Apathy’s a Tragedy & Boredom is a Crime
Sheamus getting a WWE title run like 4 months into his WWE main roster run basically proves they could’ve given Shelton a run, even a short one. I saw Sheamus’ name listed as a proven act earlier in here, but that seems like a fallacy. What could dude have proven in that short period? He had no merch at the time between his call up and title win, and couldn’t have conceivably had an effect on gates or ratings in that short period, giving no real justifiable reason to push him as quickly as they did. Even a guy like Brock Lesnar who had a similar immediate WWE title run had a successful collegiate background that made him marketable, in addition to being like the highest paid developmental signee ever. Sheamus was just a dude they plucked out of FCW. The only real reason for his sudden big push is that HHH took a liking to him and pushed for him, which proves my earlier point in this thread: if they want you in a certain spot, they’ll move Heaven and Earth to get you there. Roman Reigns is a pretty glaring example of this, no knocks on him (or Sheamus either for that matter). My main thing here is that the guy atleast deserved a shot. Whether or not he bombed, succeeded, grew a personality or just stayed a one note babyface, he was over, and could work. He had a stellar run with the IC title and a bunch of classic bouts with the top guys on RAW at that time. Everything else could’ve fallen into place if they atleast gave him the shot
