Yeah, exactlyill still take him in his prime over most of the people mentioned in here![]()
Define "Most" because Just used to use session musicians like most other hip hop beat producers. He isn't as prolific as those other names, but his quality > quantity. Those other names made more classics and more complete albums, but they also have some wack stuff because of that amount of work they've done. They also have a lot of their stuff sound the same. Just Blaze has very few wack beats, and he's been able to reinvent himself a couple times.
You've also gotta factor in that Just Blaze's beats are much more complex than some of those names. And unlike Kanye, who's bringing in a lot of people to play different instruments or co-produce with him, Just Blaze is doing most of this stuff on his own. So again, quantity is something he lacks compared with the greats. But quality is arguably better than them.
I think he has a spot in the Top 10-15 conversations just because of how great the beats are that he actually makes. I wouldn't necessarily rank him above the people you named, but I wouldn't be upset if someone else did. I would like to see him to more complete albums, though. Greatest Story Never Told is pretty flawless, and he killed Philadelphia Freeway. Looking forward to what he does on Slaughterhouse.

I'm not denying his talent as a producer/beat maker, I just didn't want to perpetuate the idea that he was some Mufti-instrumentalist (in the same vein as Madlib)Not saying he's never used session musicians, but I've seen videos where he plays his own stuff. He also manipulates his voice when there are voices on his records. Also, he had a convo w/me and a friend on Twitter about the issue. My homie was comparing Just and Kanye to the Michael Jordan/Hakeem Olajuwon draft. Just essentially said what I did - that Kanye had bigger budgets and more resources, while Just had to do more stuff on his own. Maybe he meant more of his stuff post-Rocafella; who knows. Didn't really take him for a liar though, although I acknowledge the possibility of it
Seriously. Even his unreleased shyt is classic

Didn't think anybody else was up on this
Just did this?![]()

.Just has a lot of classics though so why does it matter? He's been DJ'ing a lot lately and he says he makes more money off that than selling beats.
dude just was never on that level imo. he had classics but didn't have that fire to be producing entire albums like that. all of dudes beats in recent years have been repetitive and bland. started adding all types of uneccessary shyt into his beats, sounding like a complete mess. but honestly he didn't have the catalog or the consistency to be pumpin out whole projects. to me it's insane when people mention dude in the same breath as the all time greats.
Blueprint also just got more reviews in general, that's going to make the average lower in general vs. Greatest Story, which may have all high reviews but fewer of them out there. The Greatest Story Never Told reviews are higher than the Blueprint by Jayz. His shyt was like an all time high at 89.
Blaze is up there but lazy
